This stunning country villa offers a touch of rural luxury amongst an exquisite setting of pretty lawns and quaint farmland near the banks of the Wairau River. Welcome to ‘Botham's Beauty!’ Open a bottle of world-class local wine and relax with friends and family around the dining table. Alternatively, retire to the sitting room for a movie on the smart TV with a log fire creating warmth. In the warmer months you kick back in the outdoor furniture under the trees. This classic timber holiday-home sleeps up to 10 across 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. With Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, two wood fires, and a full kitchen with coffee machine, all home comforts are provided. Bedding supplied is one king master bed, two queen beds and four king singles. With a large trampoline, some kids' toys, Netflix and Amazon Prime, everyone will be entertained. Located near a river junction, your accommodation is less than five minutes' drive to the small town of Spring Creek, or roughly ten minutes to the main centre of Blenheim. There is plenty of off-street parking space down the private driveway including for a boat up to 7m. Close to the Cloudy Bay Coast including Rarangi Beach, this is an outstanding base from which to explore one of New Zealand's most picturesque regions, or simply take it easy and enjoy this beautiful home. There are horses in the nearby paddock at front and rear of the property, and the stable hand may need to gain access during your stay to tend to them. We do not anticipate that this will disrupt your stay.

About the location

As the biggest town in the Marlborough region, food and wine lovers must add Blenheim to their to-do list. A glorious sun-trap in the Summer, it's an idyllic location to explore with over 20 local wineries and a multitude of cafes, restaurants and bars. It's the perfect place for access out to the Marlborough Sounds for swimming with dolphins, or to Kaikoura for whale watching. At just a 30 minute drive from Picton or 90 minute flight from Auckland, our holiday homes are all close to the centre making easy access to all Blenheim has to offer. “Regal Property What a total surprise to find in the Marlborough region, a large house with separate accommodation for two if required.”

I say this was a total surprise as there are no real Hotel options or alternatives locally in such a central position that would've been comparable for comfort. We were there for one reason, wine tastings (which also didn't disappoint) and this house seems to be absolutely ideally positioned. The house was fresh and clean with the photos online depicting exactly what was seen. If anyone is looking for a base to stay while visiting this area look no further. We will definitely return in the future.

“On entering the property 2 members tripped at the top of the steps onto the decking.”

On observation the step up to the deck is taller than the previous step. A sign on the step (mind this step) with a hand rail on both sides should help prevent serious injury. One of the heater towel rail has wires protruding and is loose from its fitting. The lounge suite though looks good but is uncomfortable for those with short feet, Another couch would help plus more cushions. There is only 2 mirrors in the whole place, each room must have a mirror. All the double beds had only 1towel / face cloth? where 2 are required, plus a chair or raised unit for baggage as older people don't overstretch themselves? Externally, delightful surroundings a gem of a place.

“Property was ideal for our family gathering of 11 guests.”

Unfortunately I need to comment on a number of items that occurred during our stay plus some safety issues. On arrival my Daughter could not get access to the house as the digital front door lock would not accept the 4 digit code I was given. Fortunately the Holiday Manager Eveline Apthorp turned up and gave a new code to enter the house. On the first night we had no hot water as the circuit breaker on the Distribution Board was off. Eveline was called out to resolve the situation arround 9.30pm. During our stay we could not get the TV to work we called out Eveline who found that the TV remote batteries needed replacing. All showers had safety issues as the shower floors were slippery and there wasnt a crip bar/handle to help support the user. Also the shower to the separate out building did not drain well causing some minor overflow onto adjacent floor coverings. The was no access hand rail to the steps to the side door entrance deck. There was evidence that the original hand rail had broken and has not been replaced. Appart from the above the house is spacious, has comfortable sleeping arrangements and is well equiped. Would recommend Botham House for a group wanting to sleep up to 12 people with plenty of room and is handy to all that Blenheim has to offer.

“The house was beautiful.”

The water was not drinkable I think drinking water should be provided. The heater was not working in the mornings. There was a communication breakdown with Bachcare which resulted in no porta cot for my baby. When asked to provide the details of the email sent to me to advise this they couldn’t which was pretty disappointing. Overall we had a lovely stay house is really lovely would stay again. Just a few things for feedback.

“This is a charming home and property in many ways and there was plenty of space for our group of 9 adults.”

The yard was large and charming with horses in front and fruit trees around the house (note; someone appeared in the yard daily to, we assume, attend to the horses?). We appreciated the detached guest unit as it had the firmest bed and an additional private bathroom. However, here are a few areas where there is potential for improvement: 1) BATHROOMS: Two of the 3 bathrooms in the house are side-by-side in the hallway. Seven of the 9 adults had to share the hallway bathrooms, not ideal but also not a huge problem. However, one of the bathrooms had no electrical outlet. Neither of the bathrooms had towel rods, hooks, or cabinets, or a place to set, hang, or lay anything, such as a towel or clothing, or a dopp kit (toiletry bag). There were no trash cans in the bathrooms. We were provided 6 bath towels for 9 people and had to call for additional towels. One bathroom door lock was inoperable. One bathroom had a window with no covering or window shade, thus a person getting in and out of the tub was visible to people outside the house. 2) KITCHEN: The kitchen was not fully equipped. We cooked our meals at the house and found many items lacking, including: Wine bottle opener/corkscrew, paper towels, plastic wrap, foil, extra garbage bags, LARGE salad bowl, measuring cups, extra dish towels, knife sharpener, tape, and rubber bands (for closing opened bags). 3) LAUNDRY ROOM: It was very nice to have access to laundry, however, we were unfamiliar with a dryer that doesn't vent outside. Eventually, we figured out that the dryer had 3 filters that needed to be cleaned between loads, but they had not been attended to before we arrived. Emptying water from a container in the dryer was something none of our group had seen and the machine won't work when that container is full. Housekeeping should take care of this before each guest. And, maintenance instructions should be laminated and kept near each machine with instructions for use during one's stay. 4) GENERAL CONDITIONS: It would be most helpful if the light switches throughout the house were labeled, including the switches on the kitchen counter that control the oven and cooktop. The oven switches should remain visible and not be blocked by anything (large cutting boards blocked the switches and we had to call management to find out how the stove worked). Management/housekeepers should keep fireplaces clean and stocked with kindling and wood. Guests shouldn't be expected to clean the fireplace(s), and prep/stock the fireplace(s) upon arrival. The beds throughout the house are too soft. Soft beds are generally a problem for those with back issues. FIRM BEDS ARE PREFERRED. In addition, the shower head in the primary bathroom fell off the holster, dropped to the floor, and cracked/broke the shower head, which we reported to management. Now we've been charged for the shower head replacement. This should be considered normal wear and tear and replaced by management, NOT charged to the guest. **Some items that can be considered normal wear and tear would be nearly anything the guest reports as broken - including wine glasses, something that breaks by accident, coffee maker, appliances, window blinds, etc. If an item goes unreported or is considered theft, it is charged to the guest. We own and host an Airbnb elsewhere and we provide nice liquid hand soap at each sink, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, paper towels and TP, extra bath towels, trash bags, etc. Management/homeowners should consider these items as standard provisions.
