Tonde “We loved this cozy cottage and wished we could stay longer!”
- Tonde, January 2024 -
Daniel “We love this place.”
Comfortable and comforting, it’s everything we want in an NZ summer holiday. Super clean and tidy when we arrived and very well equiped.
- Daniel, January 2024Mereia “What a magical place to spend with our family.”
It was just what we all needed and more. The place is well kitted out with an awesome bbq to cook on. I would highly recommend staying here. You wont be disappointed
- Mereia, June 2023Ruth “Place was lovely, fire warmed the entire house, which was great as we had young children.”
The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need for cooking and baking, even baking paper! Very impressed. Had to call Bachcare and then the property manager re the fuse box, but they both responded immediately and were very friendly and sorted the problem.
- Ruth, May 2023Kylie “Tried several times to get hold of Bachcare via phone and email.”
One phone call was answered and we were told the property manager would get back to us but that never happened. House was great other than the BBQ being unusable and the rubbish bin completely full from previous guests. Kids enjoyed the garden, swing and trampoline. We loved the birdlife, even had a kereru perched in the tree out there front for a while. Would love to stay again but only if Bachcare up their game.
- Kylie, January 2023Thank you for providing a review, Kylie. We are sorry to hear of the communication issues you faced while trying to get in touch with Bachcare. Your experience will be investigated and used as feedback on how we can improve our systems in future. The other issues raised have now been addressed by the local manager and owner of the property. We hope that you still enjoyed your time at Secret Garden Lodge and we look forward to hosting you again in future. Bachcare
Kate “Great holiday home - comfortable well appointed and equipped.”
It seemed like a home that had been loved. Great books games and extras - we had a fabulous week. Loved the garden and location was fantastic. All in all a great time at fabulous spot in a lovely home. Thank you.
- Kate, December 2022Louise “A great place.”
Has everything you need. Fireplace heated up the entire house with ease.
- Louise, May 2022Daniel “Beautiful original early 80s style Bach.”
Very well maintained and super comfortable. Perfectly located between the park and the beach.
- Daniel, January 2022Trevor “A wonderful spot to relax or be as active as you want.”
Safe swimming, close to everything and lovely and peaceful. Thoroughly recommended.
- Trevor, January 2022Craig “This is a great property, in an awesome location, but we would strongly urge you to reconsider using this property managed by Bachcare.”
Bachcare property management is unacceptable, to the point where they really ought to look at why they are in a service business clipping the ticket for doing literally not a lot. We tried to contact in the weeks before and during our stay with issues we had enountered... over 20 times, and only got hold of a person once who said they'd be back in touch and never got back!!!! Wasted our time and added stress to the trip.
- Craig, December 2021Kendall “Loved this stay.”

- Kendall, December 2021eymard “Great family holiday home”
- eymard, December 2021Georgia Moana “Warm, inviting, sunny and beautiful home!”
The house is very tidy and has everything. There’s even a couple of cheeky weka roaming around the gardens which are a neat treat.
- Georgia Moana, November 2021Nita “The house was perfect thank you!”

This is Abel Tasman's very own best kept, Marahau Secret Garden Lodge. A comfortable and relaxed holiday home, 200m from the beach, with a timeless design and tasteful decor throughout. Wake in the morning and enjoy the tranquillity of the fully fenced, charming and characterful garden, where you'll discover ancient roses, mature fruit trees, natives trees and shrubs, all with the soundtrack of native birdsong from the active and close birds. From the living space here at Secret Marahau Lodge, French doors open out onto the sundeck, where you can enjoy alfresco living and dining under the grape vine covered pergola. Fire up the gas BBQ, and get into holiday mode. The garden is also ideal for kids, with a no-springs design trampoline, a children's swing, a swingball set and a petanque set to use on the large grassy areas. If, after a busy day, an afternoon siesta is just what you need, you'll love being able to out your feet up in the master bedroom opening out onto the wide verandah with a garden outlook. If you're sleeping upstairs, enjoy views of the sea, treetops, and even the stars through large skylights. During those colder months, Secret Marahu Lodge has an efficient wood-burning fireplace that warms the whole house. The bathroom is also well-heated, and all the beds have electric blankets available. So be prepared to get cosy! Secret Marahu Lodge is so close to some of the best parts of this region. It's within walking distance of the entrance to Abel Tasman National Park, a safe swimming beach is just 200m from the gate, and the local shop, as well as quality eateries and takeaways, are also just a short walk away. Local activities include kayaking, boating, horse riding, mountain biking, walking and bird watching. Or use this as an ideal base to explore the whole Tasman region on day trips!
