We did make a late booking - on the Friday for Sat-Mon, but I wasn't impressed that after having trouble booking through the website, where the property was shown as available, when I had to ring the Bachcare 0800 number to sort the booking I was then charged a $40 booking fee

Unfortunately only one gas fire was working but as a gas bottle ran out while we were there we couldn't have used it anyway. Perhaps not the easiest of heating for a holiday rental.

As there are connected twin rooms with full amenities in each, would also really suit two couples. The BBQ and outdoor eating area was very good with lovely ocean views. Excellent proper blackout curtains was a massive plus when you have young children as so many places have window fixtures that are hopeless for afternoon naps or summer bed times. The setting is bush with the morning bird chorus loud and proud however, by the next morning we happily dozed off again and loved the bird spotting. A nice walk to Akaroa via Children's Bay which avoids the main road was also good. We really enjoyed the property and would stay again.

Enjoyed the changing view, birds and nature all around, even saw a rabbit hop past the verandah.

So relaxing. The bird song was amazing and the cicadas superb. We even had a fantail fly into the house. Aptly named Fantail Cottage.
