Belinda “We enjoyed a very relaxing week at Te Horo.”
The view is incredible and so great to be right on the beach. We swam, fished off the beach, kayaked in the sea, walked and read books. The house was very comfortable and quintessentially NZ bach style. Wouldn't change a thing. Loved having no tv, but useful to have wifi to keep up to date. Thank you so much, we may well be back another time.

Fantastic for sitting, reading, walking, swimming, and watching the sea.
- Bronya, January 2023Robert “Lovely old school bach with great beach views and access - equipped enough for our group - and not too expensive.”
Thank you!
- Robert, January 2023Niky “Overall great bach/set up and would recommend or use again.”
- Niky, October 2022Brian “A great, beachfront place to stay for a few days away from the City.”
The bach is clean and tidy, and a big plus is that it's dog friendly. We had no issues at all.
- Brian, October 2022Gillian “What a wonderful property.”
Thanks for making it available. We had a wonderful time being so close to the beach and being able to share it with our dog as well as our adult children.
- Gillian, July 2022Chris “Comfortable, cosy property.”
Helpful instructions. Good selection of games and books. Well set up kitchen. Easy access and parking near door. Real beachfront, uninterrupted views. Fabulous sunsets!!
- Chris, May 2022Marion “Amazing location with beautiful beach.”
House is in need of a little TLC. Note that two bedrooms are separate rooms from the main house.
- Marion, April 2022Maureen “The location of the bach is superb, it's a shame that the property and the property management did not match this.”
- Maureen, January 2022Sue “Quintessential kiwi Bach, overpriced compared with others on the market Great position but needs some up grades.”
- Sue, December 2021Amanda “Great views of the sea.”
Lovely comfortable batch.
- Amanda, October 2021MIlly “We had a lovely 5 night stay at The Beachsider.”
It is the perfect Kiwi bach. The beach access was amazing and we loved it. It was so great to be able to bring our dog too, The beach is her favourite place and she is part of our family and it wouldn't have been complete without her! The bach itself was great. It wasn't pretending to be anything other than a proper Kiwi bach, and that is what we found. Great views, great beach access, wonderful all round. We are grateful to have been able to stay here with our family and dog. Thank you!
- MIlly, October 2021Melanie “The bach was a classic kiwi bach in a great location right next to the beach.”
It looked like the deck had just been built which was great, but there was a large mound of dirt in front which meant we couldn't actually get to the beach without going back and forward over the dirt. The deck was therefore dirt coated when we arrived. Given that we paid for cleaning afterwards, the level of cleanliness was disappointing. The shelves look like they haven't had a good dust in months and the fireplace was full. My husband had to empty this after the first night to try and get the fireplace to work properly and we came away with all of our stuff smelling of smoke. The dishes in the cupboards were not very clean so we actually cleaned our own plates, trays etc before we used them. There were notes around the bach advising on how to look after the bach, and photos in the welcome book as to how to put things back in the cupboards in the same spot. We understand the septic tank sign but the others made it feel like we were stepping on eggshells. In saying that, we followed all of the rules carefully including using coasters on the tables (which seems slightly excessive for a 'chilled out' bach) and carefully putting the books and games back as we found them. Given the level of care that we took it was very disappointing to return home and receive an email accusing us of breaking the sofabed/couch and advising the next steps in terms of getting us to pay for repairs etc Regarding the sofabed/couch, there was a sign on the wall saying not to use the couch as a sofabed and also in the welcome book it mentioned that the sofabed/couch had been broken by someone previously. So it seems pretty harsh to accuse us of breaking it given it had already been broken. All we did was sit gently on it and we actually had to use one of our towels between the backrest and the wall to stop it banging it against the wall every time you moved slightly. It looks like a sofabed/couch from the 70's so perhaps the previous people who were told they broke it just had bad luck in using an old couch that was about to fail. It seems particularly unreasonable to then accuse us of breaking it also given it was clearly already broken. We would have taken photos of it when we arrived had it not already mentioned in the welcome book it was broken. After being emailed about this we approached both the host and Bachcare to advise that we did not break it and to seek a response from them about this (hoping this was just a mis-communication). A week letter we are yet to hear back. This is a really poor end to what was intended to be a relaxing weekend away.
- Melanie, June 2021Thank you for taking the time to provide this comprehensive feedback on your stay at The Beachsider and we are delighted you enjoyed the great location. The deck has been a recent addition and added to enhance outdoor living even more. We apologise that the fire was not set for your arrival and are pleased to advise that the couch has now been replaced. Bachcare
Carolina “We have really nice time, fantastic location and view.”
Thanks!
- Carolina, May 2021Lisa “We loved the warm, friendly Lockwood style Bach with excellent access to beach walks.”
Lovely to have a pet friendly Bach. The puzzles and fire were awesome. Thanks!
- Lisa, May 2021Anne “If you’re looking for a place to spend some quality time with family, this is your go-to!”
No Tv, No wifi, but it was totally not needed with the beach right outside, loved that there were plenty of board games to keep us busy we made use of backyard space kids loved it. We had a 3night stay over the Easter break, a few ammenities added/upgraded than originally stated on booking so that was a nice surprise. Kitchen fully equipped, so much room to enjoy for our team of 8. :) didn’t need to really use the sleep out as we did marae-styles mattress on the floor kinda sleeping our kids loved it! You still get good reception out there, If you need to check anything or get in comms with ppl back home. The house itself is a bit old and on a windy night can be creaky so much can be done to revamp and upgrade it as a whole, but that won’t take away from the great weekend we had. It promised a full-on kiwi Bach experience, (not 5star service) and that’s what we got and we loved it the kids didn’t want to leave. (Really funny considering they are technology kinda creatures lol) we will definitely head out there again and highly recommend this little hidden treasure.

What a wonderful location we are definately coming back but what topped it off was The Host 'Raewyn Howe' thank you Raewyn for the outstanding one on one service you provided for us from the beginning to the end, you made our stay (especially Mum's) stressfree - TY PS - I've already promoted this little pinch of Paradise and Raewyn
- Beverly, October 2020Janet “Amazing location, comfortable and family friendly.”
- Janet, October 2020Brigitte “Sorry so write, that this little Bach is neglected and not looked after.”
Lovely position on the beach, quite private. The place needs a good clean, including kitchen and dining ware. Door handles should not fall off and outside lights should work. This could be a lovely retro Bach if treated properly.
- Brigitte, October 2020Thank you for your valuable Brigitte. We are glad you enjoyed the location. We will pass your comments along to the owner of the property and hope that we can welcome you back again in the future. Bachcare
Becky “A great property - amazing location, amazing facilities.”
The fireplace, games and books give it a homey feel. Definitely a high end batch, but a batch so don't expect 5 star accommodation but its definitely somewhere I would go back in a heartbeat!
- Becky, March 2020Damian “Absolute beachfront property.”
We loved our stay. The Queen bed was comfortable as well. While it is tempting to watch the kids on the beach from the deck there can be a strong under tow.
- Damian, February 2020Liz “A great location with a fab beach view.”
Nice and private. House has everything you need, including a spectacular selection of books and games. Remember your beach toys!

The property
The closest to the beach you can stay without getting your feet wet. The Beachsider is a cosy Lockwood holiday home with a warm, sunny atmosphere, and a toasty wood burner for winter. It’s been the site of many legendary family memories and great times with friends. Comfy and homely, it’s the perfect escape for the family on holiday, we even welcome the dog. The indoor open-plan living is great for that holiday vibe, and with sheltered decks on both sides of the house, you can choose your sunny spot to soak up the atmosphere outside. Te Horo beach is dramatic and exciting, at times a large sandy expanse, at others a stormy stony rise. It’s safe for swimming, boating or surfing, or for long walks in either direction. To the south is Peka Peka and beyond, or head northwards to the Otaki River. Located about an hour from Wellington it’s a handy 15-minute drive to either Otaki or Waikanae and Paraparaumu. If you’re here for the weekend, make sure you visit the famous Bus Stop Café an easy 20-minute stroll from The Beachsider down Sims Road. The Beachsider is the perfect escape from city life, you won’t want to leave
Please note that the bunk beds are only suitable for children to use.
As the property has unfenced access to the beach, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water.
Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.About the location
