Wendy “Pohutakawa House is a really lovely place, in a beautiful setting, with great facilities, well maintained and pretty comfortable.”

We all enjoyed our stay there and rate it highly. However, a few niggles: the weather was unseasonably cold and we were very pleased to have the open fireplace, but the wood supply was inadequate and we ran out of wood, and also had to buy our own kindling. The central heating could not be activated, as it needed a technician to start it up. We complained to Bachcare, and while the response took some time, we appreciated the efforts of Straan at Bachcare Support, and on the last day, received more firewood, a heater, and woollen blankets for the beds, which meant we all slept better, as the duvets were summer-weight and not warm enough on their own. The lockbox code was not the one we had been supplied with, and we had to ring Bachcare to get the current one. The lockbox itself was not "beside the front door" as described in our Bachcare details, but in fact, under the railing of the back deck. This should be corrected. One of the non-stick frying pans we used was old and in fact not "non-stick'. We made it worse by cooking something that stuck to the bottom, and tried to rectify this by using vinegar and baking soda to clean it, but despite our best efforts, it still wasn't very satisfactory. Apologies for that, but we think you could do with a new frying pan. We couldn't find a broom, or brush and shovel to sweep the kitchen, though we did vacuum it before we left. The coffee maker had to be cleaned, and we had to look up the model on the internet to get instructions about how to use it. Our 'barista' did a good job of learning to use it, and made us lovely coffee, but it would be great if the coffee maker manual could be printed and left beside it in future. The TV room is nice, but we think it needs curtains, to keep it warm in cold weather. Enough of the complaints! We had a super time, and appreciated being in such a beautiful house, with its lovely period features, and the stunning trees (including the magnificent kauri). Thank you for having us!
