Christopher “Interior is a bit dated but we didn't mind and it was a lovely comfortable home with a lovely private garden.”
The sand pit was a great surprise for our two boys. Especially loved the items provided (that we haven't had as much of or at all in previous accomodations) such as; more than enough dishwasher tabs, more than enough dishwash liquid, whole container of washing powder, cooking oil (you never think to bring this and only ever need a small bit!), salt, pepper, handy towels, more than enough tea towels, ice if needed. Also was great to have the use of the garage and there were even two bikes to use although we didn't end up using them. Location was perfect as it was close to our friends bach. We would definitely stay again.

Monique “We stayed in this house for three nights.”
Overall we thought it was great value for money, the house is close to town and has everything you need for a stay in Kaikoura. The house was nice and clean when we arrived, yes the carpet is stained as mentioned in other reviews.. but does that really matter? your not sleeping on the carpet... Other than not having a drying rack for our washing, it did have everything we needed. We did stay at the start of winter, so if staying in Summer you would be fine with the clothes line outside. The house was very warm and snug. We did think possibly you could ulter the listing to notifiy one of the rooms is a sleepout attached to the garage, as if I had more kids with me, I wouldn't feel comfortable having them sleeping out there, but we had adults with us so suited us fine. Overall we were very happy with the house and our stay and would look to stay again in the future.
- Monique, June 2024Maddy “Very disappointed with this property.”
Had read earlier reviews regarding the dirty carpets and the bare necessities i.e. kitchen utensils etc. but decided to give the place a go. Also there was no welcome pack, nothing to advise guests how to operate certain things. The heat pump was disgraceful! It was old, broken and even though it worked, it was very noisy. The carpets were just as people had explained. Really stained. The curtains could do with some TLC too. Broken hooks. Very surprised that these things haven't been attended to since these comments have been made on other feedback posts. The only redeeming feature was the fact that the garden was fully fenced and secure for our dog but sorry would not stay again.
- Maddy, May 2024Anna “We found it really ideal for us because we had a furry member of the family and the property was fully enclosed.”
Very close to the town but still quiet because there aren’t many cars passing around. Very suitable to our needs
- Anna, February 2024Dianne “This house is great, plenty of room and well fenced for the dog.”
Great location, wifi worked perfectly. Yes the carpet is dirty - two hours with a Rug Doctor would fix that though. My only disappointment is with Bach Care fees. Don't mind paying $100 cleaning, but $150 on top of that for linen hire..... rip off. AIR BNB don't charge anything for linen. And I'm being charged $31.63 "call out fee" plus postage to be returned 2 pieces of clothing left behind - call out fee is a rip off when the property manager goes in after every booking to clean anyway...... Great House though, thanks to the owners for sharing. Can easily sleep 6.
- Dianne, January 2024Sharyn “The property is in a great location but unfortunately there was a couple of issues with the unit.”
The carpet has stains all over it. You certainly wouldn't want to walk on it with bare feet, it isn't just a wee patch it's all over, The unit stunk of cooking aromas and the smell in the sleepout (3rd bedroom) was over-powering. Having said that, the beds were clean and the kitchen was tidy.
- Sharyn, October 2023Thank you for reviewing your recent stay, Sharyn. We acknowledge your feedback and have discussed these comments with the local team and the property owner. This property is a simple-stay bach and as such some of its elements, including carpeting, have not been replaced in many years. We have accordingly priced the property to reflect this. We hope that, even with these issues, you were still able to relax and enjoy your holiday spent here. Thanks again. Bachcare
Louise “The bedrooms were comfortable and made up nicely.”
The place is let down by the stained carpet which appears dirty. It needs a touch of paint, new carpet and bathroom could do with a refresh. Also there was no egg slice in the kitchen and kitchen scissors were broken. The place is very convenient to everything.
- Louise, October 2023Hi Louise, we appreciate the review left here. This feedback has been passed on to the local team and property owner to discuss. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Bachcare
Evan “Lovely house and facilities.”
Enjoyed having a back section property that I could park the boat away from the street. Very friendly Neighbours and extremely helpful. Excellent Oven & Dishwasher.
- Evan, October 2023Sophie “The garage door would not stay down.”
Would automatically open when it touched the ground. The extractor fan did not work in the bathroom. Only one light worked in bathroom. Vinyl on bathroom floor peeling off. Extractor fan in kitchen too far away from cooktop to work. Very old and tired pots and frying pan. Broken utensils in draw. One sliding door unable to open off living area.
- Sophie, October 2023Thank you for providing a review, Sophie. We have shared your comments with the property owner and the local team to address. Feedback like this is important to our properties, so we appreciate the time taken to detail what would have made your holiday more comfortable in future. Bachcare
Maartje “The house is old and could use some renovation and TLC… No WiFi and the dishwasher out of order.”
The carpet is really dirty. The beds were nice. And the bikes to use since the supermarket is a long way.
- Maartje, February 2023Thank you for your review Kat. We are sorry to hear you found some amenities not up to standard. Your feedback has been taken onboard and we have since added wifi to the property and installed a new dishwasher. We are working with the property owner on a plan for maintenance between the regularly scheduled cleans. Bachcare

About the location
Kaikoura is watched over by the majestic mountain ranges that stretch down towards the rugged east coast of the South Island. Kaikoura is most well known for its whale watching opportunities, which attract visitors from across the world. Tours depart Kaikoura to allow visitors the chance to catch glimpses of giant sperm whales, dolphins, fur seals, and the rare royal albatrosses. For those who are more adventurous, there are chances to don a wetsuit and swim with many of the wonderful creatures found on the Kaikoura Coastline. The annual Seafest, held the first weekend in October, is becoming increasingly popular, and attracts more visitors every year. For history buffs, Kaikoura offers the chance to learn about the early whaling and sealing days of the district, as well as Maori History, and a number of historic buildings. There are also a number of walks to explore, one which takes visitors past some spectacular limestone caves, and seal colonies.
