Shne “There was no BBQ on site”
- Shne, October 2024 -
Julie “We were a multi generation family of 10 staying at Kiekie Cottage.”
The location was superb and watching the dolphins frolic right in front of the cottage was absolutely magical. Although you are close to the railway line, we only noticed about 2 trains going passed a day so it didn't bother us. SH1 is also right outside but we didn't really notice the noise. The outside area is lovely, unique and well maintained, we would have loved to been here when the weather was warmer and we could have enjoyed it more. The listing was not clear that 2 bedrooms were actually off another bedroom, which works well for a family with children. It would not work so well regarding privacy if the familial connection is more distant (or not at all), or someone uses the bathroom during the night! Two more dining room chairs are needed if 10 guests stay, as well as more cutlery, which is very easily fixed! We did love our stay here, it is a very unique and magical place.

- Nikki, March 2024Aleksejs “Absolutely great batch to stay in, from the first steps you can see it is loved and well maintained.”
I is far from the new build, but still pretty modern with plenty of space to accommodate 3 families with kids and not to feel crowded! Will definitely stay here again when we get a chance.
- Aleksejs, February 2023Chris “Thanks very much to the family that let us stay at their amazing place!”
We didn’t get to go fishing but still had a great break. I think I sat on all of the seats and they were all good! There was about a inch of rain on Saturday and the window leaked a little bit by the internet router. Otherwise everything seemed to work well , didn’t turn the TV on or use bbq. Thanks again would love to come back Chris and Marie

Kaikoura is watched over by the majestic mountain ranges that stretch down towards the rugged east coast of the South Island. Kaikoura is most well known for its whale watching opportunities, which attract visitors from across the world. Tours depart Kaikoura to allow visitors the chance to catch glimpses of giant sperm whales, dolphins, fur seals, and the rare royal albatrosses. For those who are more adventurous, there are chances to don a wetsuit and swim with many of the wonderful creatures found on the Kaikoura Coastline. The annual Seafest, held the first weekend in October, is becoming increasingly popular, and attracts more visitors every year. For history buffs, Kaikoura offers the chance to learn about the early whaling and sealing days of the district, as well as Maori History, and a number of historic buildings. There are also a number of walks to explore, one which takes visitors past some spectacular limestone caves, and seal colonies.
