    “The smaller bedroom upstairs has no reading light by the bed.”

    I would suggest installing an extractor fan in the bathroom. If sleeping or staying down stairs the water pump goes on during the night from time to time and is extremely noisy. This can be turned off at the electric panel upstairs.
