Laura “This was probably the most well equipped apartment I have ever stayed in, every little thing we needed was there.”
Clean, comfortable and a great location right in town.

Polly “Great lication”
- Polly, March 2024Linda “A lovely comfortable apartment in a perfect location.”
Would definitely book again. Instructions re carparking could be a bit clearer (e.g. you can park anywhere that isnt reserved or has a "no parking" sign on it) and a second fob key would have been good but we managed without. All in all I would be happy to recommend.
- Linda, August 2023Stephanie “Loved the apartment.”
Well appointed and comfortable. Set backs were that there was only one towel per guest for 3 nights and the tap water was not drinkable. I would recommend a filtered water option tap water or cooled water through the fridge.
- Stephanie, March 2023Roy “Really well equipped apartment.”
More than one entry key to the apartment would have been helpful
- Roy, March 2023Nigel “Firstly, the communication and contact we have had these past four weeks from Bachcare has been almost non existent.”
When we were forced to stay in Hamilton to avoid Cyclone Gabrielle, we found it difficult to contact Bachcare, and it was only after a number of fruitless calls, someone whose name escapes me, agreed we would be refunded two night’s accommodation at the Paihia apartment. Due to the storms and subsequent road closures north of Auckland, we didn’t get to Paihia until the Saturday, a week after we had booked the property for so feel a larger refund should have been authorised. Once at the property we had no contact from any one at Bachcare until a couple knocked on the door at the end of the second week to say we could have some more linen. They said they would call back to collect the used linen, which they did the next day, Although we were out, they let themselves in, we feel that’s unacceptable. Surely that should have been made clear to us before we arrived? They called again about a week before we were due to leave, but as there were only two of us in the property, we didn’t need further linen. In any rental such as this, a local agent should be on hand for local issues, and a phone call just to enquire all is OK after the first couple of days? We would comment on a number of issues we feel are worth reporting back to the owners given the rental we paid for the four week stay. Firstly, one key is no good, if four people were in the property how would that work? You said there were two car park spaces in the underground garage. There were no spaces for 107, it was pot luck each day to find a space. That said, secure parking was a bonus. Nowhere in the description did it say there were no views, and certainly the view out of the kitchen and main bathroom into the back yard of a property and all its rubbish bins and washing lines was not great! The whole apartment from the lounge sofas, the main double bed, and particularly the outside furniture were very uncomfortable and need replacing. The kitchen was functional although again if four people were staying there, four mugs, glasses, plates, cutlery etc are no good if after breakfast you have to wash them all up before using again! On the plus side, the shower in the en suite was excellent. And we did use the pool a couple of times, but that wouldn’t change our overall view of this rental. We would agree the location is very good given the proximity to the bars, restaurants and shops in the village, and the ferry to Russell. Finally, for people like us staying more than a long weekend, the TV is dreadful. After the first week Netflix wouldn’t work, and the remaining channels on TVNZ are appalling. Not your fault but further channels/Sky should be offered at these rental prices. We can only conclude that this property is booked by people for a few days or less, and all the problems we have highlighted are never mentioned as dining out, and the facilities as provided are adequate. I doubt we’ll ever come back to the Bay of Islands, but if we do, this apartment will not be on our short list, sorry.
- Nigel, February 2023Hi Nigel. We appreciate you taking the time to provide a review for your recent stay with us. Firstly, I want to apologise for the poor service you had received leading up to your holiday. The communication and linen issues you have described are far below our standard. This will be investigated with the relevant teams to address and improve on in future. Recent weather events had proven difficult to navigate through with our current booking policies, so we thank you for your understanding. Your feedback regarding the property has been passed onto the property owners who have informed me that the outdoor furniture has now been replaced. The focal point of this property is the view out the front, which streams through into the lounge or the patio. I have also been informed that there can be additional consumables for larger parties, however there was limited set out for your booking due to its smaller size. With that all said, we hope you were still able to relax on your holiday here and were able to enjoy the fantastic location and amenities. Thanks again for your review, Nigel. Bachcare
