    “The house over all was lovely.”

    Living areas, kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were clean. Location good, views wonderful. Lack of maintenance has let this property down. We arrived, entered the front door to find a lift, but the lift was out of order. A note on the floor inside the lift directed us to use a path at the side of the house and stairs at the back. The garden bordering the path was overgrown and encroaching the path. The stairs were narrow and difficult to navigate with suitcases. There were tiles missing from ...

    Living areas, kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were clean. Location good, views wonderful. Lack of maintenance has let this property down. We arrived, entered the front door to find a lift, but the lift was out of order. A note on the floor inside the lift directed us to use a path at the side of the house and stairs at the back. The garden bordering the path was overgrown and encroaching the path. The stairs were narrow and difficult to navigate with suitcases. There were tiles missing from the first step of the stairs. I had to ring Bachcare to ask for the code to the second lockbox so we could access the downstairs unit/4th bedroom. The unit had a musty smell, although opening windows did help. There is no direct access between the main house and the 4th bedroom unit, therefore you have to go outside to go from one to the other. The path to the sun lounge is not easily accessible as it is badly overgrown also. There were switches that didn’t turn anything on or off. One bank of lights above the dining table was not working. Flat batteries in remotes. Crockery was chipped. There was only one tea towel supplied in the main kitchen so we took the tea towel from the downstairs unit up. The dryer in the main laundry was not working and looking at the photos on the booking website has been broken for some time as the dial is missing in the photos. We did however find a dryer in the garage. There was no instruction manuals for appliances and the washing machine in the downstairs unit was confusing. In the downstairs unit bathroom there is only one hook to hang two towels. I had to hang towels over dining chairs. We were not informed that the pool was not to be used by guests. There were no signs at the house telling us this, it was only that I was looking at the website after we had arrived that I became aware the pool was not to be used. It is unfortunate that these maintenance issues have let this property down because with a little TLC it would get full marks.

A 10 minute walk or two minute drive will land you in the heart of Paihia. Here you can wander into the info centre to book a day of adventure on the water, enjoy the range of fantastic cafes and restaurants, and swim in the sparkling sea. Another five minutes of driving will take you to the unmissable Waitangi Treaty Grounds and a world class golf course. Please be aware that the pool is not currently available for guest use.

Although the pool has a full perimeter fence, the pool can be accessed through doors from the house. Access to the pool should be restricted by closing the doors unless a responsible adult is supervising swimmers.
