“Staghead Cottage is a gem.”

We were a group of two couples who stayed at the cottage in early December 2023. The cottage felt warm and inviting the moment we stepped in, and the thoughtfulness and preparation put in by the hosts was obvious. We very much appreciated all the finishing touches. The cottage is a solid 1950s era dwelling which has been well maintained and decorated in a way which is faithful to that era, and it has all the modern facilities which one would expect. It is located in a very picturesque valley of rolling hills and livestock, and is only a 5 minute drive from the excellent Apiti Tavern & Eatery. It is also just a 5 minute drive to Makoura Lodge which is a well-regarded conference, wedding and event venue. We heartily recommend Staghead Cottage for anyone who is looking to get away from it all to relaxing, restful and welcoming accommodation. We would not hesitate to book it again.

“The hosts are generous and warm.”

The cottage is immaculate with so many thoughtful touches to help make a relaxing and comfortable stay. The location is peaceful and beautiful with stunning views and the chance to walk on the farmland to see more awesome views of the surrounding landscape. We all enjoyed learning more about sheep and cattle farming in this part of NZ. Its close to the Ruahine's for bush/mountain walks too. We'd love to stay at Staghead Cottage again and wholeheartedly recommend it.

Fielding has been the winner of New Zealand's Most Beautiful Town award 12 times, and is a growing town that supports the surrounding farmland district. Fielding has a number of visitor attractions, including gardens, a restored clocktower, the Manawatu Horsedrawn Vehicle Museum, Steam Rail Museum, and a number of Edwardian buildings throughout the town that are lovingly restored and looked after. Fielding's stock saleyards are famous, as is Mansfield Park, which hosts a number of races, festivals and other events.
