Tui “Great location a hidden gem, the fire heated the whole house, nice and cosy.”
- Tui, March 2024 -
Priya “Wonderful house, great location with the peace and serenity of the river and forest around.”
Lovely views to the river, exactly like the photos. Fireplace was well stocked to keep the fire going on the cold nights. Perfect little escape - will definitely be back!
- Priya, June 2023Erin “So happy we chose to book this bach!”
We experienced a wonderful weekend get away here. Situated in a gated community with other holiday homes dotted around the farm. The house is perfectly positioned to capture all of the beautiful scenery that surrounds it. It was well set up for two families. Modern facilities that were clean and functional. The children loved sleeping up in the lofts and us adults loved waking up to the majestic views from the bedrooms. The boat ramp is a short drive down the road which also had a playground, picnic area and tennis court. Fantastic spot for heading out on the water and enjoying the river. Highly recommended! Thanks so much for having us, we would love to come back again soon.
- Erin, March 2023Haylee “We had such a lovely time staying here and despite a few issues would love to come back and enjoy the space again.”
A suggestion would be to advise on the ladder/ loft situation a little clearer as it is quite step even for young adults. We had many friends and family staying at other house due to a wedding onsite and everything about the area was beautiful. Highly recommend.
- Haylee, February 2023Nigel “Thank you very much for letting us stay at your holiday house.”
Everything was as expected! Having direct access to the boat ramp was a real bonus. The views from the house were fantastic and provided a very relaxing environment.
- Nigel, February 2023Natasha “A lovely holiday in a magical spot.”
Shame the weather wasn't a little dryer, but we still had a fabulous time. It was fantastic for our daughter and her friend to be able to bring their horses on holiday too - the farm manager Graeme was wonderfully accomodating.
- Natasha, January 2023Charles “Location is beautiful because so serene and peaceful.”
The real opportunity to take a break. Place is very well appointed, everything our family need is there. They have plenty of wood for the wood stove. We will definitely visit again.
- Charles, July 2022Sarah “Lovely view and outlook.”
Beautiful walks on the property with an impressive waterfall and lake access. Just be aware that two of the bedrooms are lofts accessible by ladder only. They get extremely hot with the fire going and are difficult for older people to access - especially with luggage. Lovely to have a dishwasher. Enjoyed our stay - thank you!
- Sarah, June 2022Andy “Fantastic spot and very private.”
Ideal for a family water activities holiday. Bring your bikes and boats. We all loved it.
- Andy, January 2022Jean “Absolutely breathtaking”
- Jean, July 2021Chantal “Great property, cosy, next to Waikato river.”
- Chantal, May 2021Tamsyn “Great sized home with spectacular views!”
- Tamsyn, March 2021Louise “Our family normally camp to water ski but this year, with our children now in the workforce, we decided to have quality time on a lake we love without the work.”
As soon as I arrived at the bach I knew I had made the right choice. The most perfect bach, not sound proof inside but we adapted. Amazing bach, great tennis court and a very good boat ramp. We will book ag6for next year for longer if available. So, so happy.
- Louise, February 2021Robert “Stunning location, on a hill above the Waikato River.”
The views are true to the listing, the landscape is gorgeous in sunshine or with the mist rising on cooler days. The bach has lovely landscaping around it, purple liriope at the front and lavender, rosemary and native grasses at the back. There are also fruit trees and a vege garden on the property. The bach itself is a simple rectangle, with a bedroom and ensuite at each end and one big room in between, kitchen/dining/lounge combined. At night the sky is inky black with loads of stars, being away from light pollution. The showers were also great, being thermostatically controlled and nicely designed. We appreciate all those things. Unfortunately, there were other aspects to the stay which means we won't be returning or recommending. These are - inaccurate listing (it's more than a 5km drive to Whakamaru Reserve, not a 15 minute stroll), inaccurate welcome information (the welcome pack said the nearest place for milk etc was 45 minutes away in Taupo, when it was five minutes away in Whakamaru), front door unlockable until we fixed it (manager refused to fix, we had to leave the house unlocked with our stuff in it while we went to get batteries to fix their front door), dirty bed linen (bird poop on the duvet cover, grass stains on the blankets), dirty bathroom (orange/brown marks on a shower wall), dusty floor (only cleaned in the pathways where one walked), insufficient heating and supplies (a dearth of firelighters and five matches were provided for the fire over a four night/five day stay, and no other form of heating, so we had to choose when to be warm) and the most unhelpful manager we have experienced (we rent a bach most months of the year, so we have a lot of experience).
- Robert, January 2021Thank you for your feedback Robert. We're glad you enjoyed the stunning views here. Both cleaning and great service are very important to us here at Bachcare, and it’s unfortunate that this was not what you experienced, as that's not our usual standard. We will follow up on this. We have also made updates to the listings to ensure it is most accurate. Bachcare

Step into a postcard-perfect paradise at this stunning Waikato River escape, positioned harmoniously up on the hillside boasting phenomenal panoramic rural views - Welcome to The Waikato Lookout. Wake up to the sound of native birds, enjoy a morning cup of coffee out on the sundeck, and take in all the surrounding scenery from this unforgettable location. Being based right on the water and as part of a larger section of working farmland, you'll not only have access to the lake whenever you need it but if you feel like exploring there is a waterfall onsite tucked away amongst the native bush. The beautifully designed and tasteful interior has been thoughtfully curated to create a relaxing holiday atmosphere that blends into its surroundings. With floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors across the north-facing side of the home, The Waikato Lookout offers incredible indoor/outdoor flow that is nothing if not impressive. Take your pick for great spots to settle in and relax, from the large outdoor dining and BBQ area on the sundeck on those warm summer days or, in winter, tucked up on the couch in front of the fireplace with a good book. If you're planning to bring the boat and get onto the water, The Waikato Lookout not only has plenty of room to park the boat, but even has access to a boat ramp within the farmpark. Located in the central volcanic plateau of the North Island and sitting alongside the Waikato River, your summer or winter stay will be a home run. Lake Whakamaru and the beautiful Whakamaru Reserve are just down the road, or get onto some of the nearby cycling trails, including the Waikato River Trails and the nearby Timber Trail. Maybe a hike up Mt Titiraupenga is more your style, located at the geographic centre of the North Island. If you head into town, you'll find a grocery store, cafe, pizza restaurant, and petrol station. Or Taupo Central is within a 45-minute drive, as is Rotorua. The Maori words 'whaka' and 'maru' translate to give shelter to, or safeguard. You won't want to be anywhere else this trip - The Waikato Lookout is sure to beg you back again!
As the property has unfenced access to the river, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water.
As access to the mezzanine bedroom is via a ladder that has no handrails to prevent falls, all guests should take extra care and this area may not be suitable for children.
As there is a deck without a barrier, all guests should take extra care on the deck as there is no barrier to prevent falls. Children should be supervised in this area.
As this property is in a gated community on a working farm, guests must observe farm health and safety guidelines at all times. A copy of these guidelines will be made available.
As the property uses a bio-tank septic system, only the use of eco-friendly cleaning and bathroom products is permitted.
