Photos make the place look better than it is. Way over priced for the quality of the place - top dollar for tatty cupboards, noisy fridge and a chairs with huge holes in the backing. Disappointed. It was however clean and a great place if you have kids as there are lots of kids toys.

Malcolm “Good points nice bed, nice shower.”
Bad points. House not cleaned on arrival at 3pm. Cleaners turned up as we did. Bedding needed for 5 but only 4 supplied. Not a problem... Rung bachcare who said they'd get hold of property manager and call me back to make sure it was sorted. Never heard from anyone again. Ended sourcing bedding elsewhere. House nothing like photos which I assume were done post reno. Now paint peeling and run down. Ceiling over fire and in center of lounge folding in. All fine if represented in photos but it wasn't. Dishes from last stay left in dishwasher albeit clean. Spa pool only two thirds full. On there own probably not all major complaints but together add up.

Liz “I can’t afford to own a second house so it’s hard to be too judgemental but this property is without a doubt the worst maintained one we have stayed in.”
Here’s some easy things to do before the next poor people spend their hard earned money to stay and feel super uncomfortable…. Put lightbulbs in the lights - there was just one working light in the house! Replace the lightbulb in the fridge Put handles on the drawers - better than rough screws Use rubbish bags in the bins that fit oh and get a rubbish bin that opens properly Put fasteners on the windows so they close and are secure Put a drain pipe in the bath/shower drain (might help with all the flies and I’m pretty sure it’s a requirement of the building code in NZ) Where the ceiling is falling in - fix it Fix the doors so they don’t fall out if you open them Fix the curtain rails so they aren’t hanging off The fire was great on a cold weekend but recommend getting a chimney sweep in. These few very basic items should make the place a bit nicer. Thanks!

Allison “Pluses - beds were comfortable and shower has good water pressure.”
Big section close to beach. Minuses - on arrival window to main bedroom was wide open as it can’t be securely latched. Window in children’s bedroom was also unable to be securely latched due to broken window frame and broken latch. The toilet had not been cleaned (gross). Generally the house needed a gd clean and maintenance. This property should not be available to rent until there is a guarantee that the house can be secured and is regularly cleaned. As we arrived on Christmas Eve I rang Bachcare immediately to report the issues. They got back to me and said someone would come on Boxing Day (meaning 2 days we couldn’t secure house), no evidence they turned up at all. Worst place we have ever stayed in.

There is also a lovely big bath inside. There wasn't quite enough bedding (duvets and pillows). Also would have been good to have door mats and bath mats. In general, the place need a bit of maintenance (e.g. kitchen cupboard handles missing). Great proximity to the fabulous Waikanae bakery.

Leanne “It was what we expected, a little Bach in Waikanae Beach.”
Prob needs a bit a work to bring it back up to scratch and not sure when it had had a good clean as cobwebs everywhere. But served our purpose and it was good that we could bring the dogs. Kids enjoyed the toys and the spa.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the property had a lovely charm about it. We enjoyed the use of the spa which made our stay more relaxing and special. We had everything we needed which made our stay stress free. We decided not to bring our doggo this time but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the peace and quiet lol. It was clean and comfortable. Just a small note to remember to take extra towels with you as we were stuck with the same towel for a weekend which wasn’t the best. Otherwise it was a great location, visiting Wainakae township which had everything you need pharmacy, supermarket, cafes and more. Loved the bean bags on the deck. Thank you to a special little gem.

Bach feel but lack of care and attention - for the price

I think it would be a nice place to bring kids as lots of outdoor space and toys. Could be a lovely place with some elbow grease and work to fix it up. Overpriced for what you get compared with other Waikanae beach properties

Not posh but has all you need. Hot tub is lovely. So many walks or cycle rides right there. Two cafes close by. I was able to rake my dog and he was allowed inside. I loved my time there. Fully fenced.

It is a cute Kiwi bach with an awesome big yard and an amazing collection of games. Unfortunately, the spa was unusable, having been left filthy by the previous guests. Bachcare assured us this would be cleaned before we departed but this was not the case. We did receive some compensation but would have much preferred to be able to use the spa, since this was why we chose this property.

Very tidy and kids loved it (aged 2 and 4) - especially the boxes of Duplo and toys, flat garden, garden toys, and spa pool. We'd love to come back!

Our kids really enjoyed the toys available and the spa. Easy to get to from Wellington. Good internet connection to keep in touch with work as required. Good location, lovely beach, easy drive to Nga Manu. We would love to come stay again.

The property is well equipped and has lots of toys and games which the kids loved. However, electrics are a concern. All the sockets are overloaded and the electrics had tripped before we arrived. I think the property manager had put heaters on for us but obviously these weren't on as electrics had trioped so house was freezing and everytime we tried to put more than 2 heaters on the electrics tripped again so took ages to heat the house through. The spa pool also wasn't up to temperature the day we arrived so couldn't use it the first day which was disappointing. Once heated it was lovely though.
