House was comfortable and warm with great facilities. A great location a short walk to the lake and 25 minutes to Rotorua.

Wiremu “My Parents absolutely loved the old antiques in there and especially the old sleeper railway wood arnd the tv and fireplace.”
The spa and the view from it will always be one I would remember then going from there to inside with the fire going was awesome. Thank use.
- Wiremu, September 2024Trish “The Kiwiana Bach was a delight to stay in, very comfortable with great views of the lake.”
- Trish, September 2024Aidan “Our family absolutely loved the relaxed and authentic period nature of this lake side bach.”
The view of course is majestic and dominates on a clear, sunny day. Which happily included all our days. This bach is a master class in space. An extended family of seven, including three teenage boys positively melted into these amenities as if at home. All bedding comforts are either good or excellent and the ample linen options are luxurious. Kitchen amenities are modern and tasteful and masterfully out of the way. The real stars of this bach are the windows. All rooms are well catered and including outstanding block-out blinds to eliminate light noise overnight. The absolute opposite can be said for the day. Drawing back the blinds and veils floods the house with warmth, light and a jaw-dropping volcanic vista. Opening the french doors to draw in the view cements an unbelievable sense of space and relaxation. The piano is an excellent touch that basically sold this venue for us. Predictably our pianist barely left it alone. On that note; please tune it as it is shockingly out across the spectrum. I'm sure the neighbours will appreciate less honky for a lot more tonky. I would like to highlight the extensive collection of excellent literature, visual media and traditional games. The television however is a serious let down and should be replaced. Thank you for providing an outstanding facility.
- Aidan, March 2024Bernadine “Really comfortable, homely and warm.”
Lots of parking. Lots of books and a few games. Lake access is just a little stroll out the drive and just down the road, a coupe mins walk away. We were very lucky to have 2 very clear nights and to watch the bright moon come up over the Mount Tarawera and shine on the lake was magnificent. Recommend taking your own olive oil. Also no shops close to the house so make sure you bring enough wine for the night as the closest store is back in town 15-20min drive.
- Bernadine, February 2024Glenys “We loved the bach, even though is was small it worked well with our family of 7, lots of parking was great.”
The property manager left no details about the rubbish removal or recycling, i found. a neighbour to talk to about directions to the recycling station , really comfy beds, nice clean linen, great deck with lots of chairs to enjoy the view, nicely painted and maintained Cell coverage very limited but we would come again
- Glenys, January 2024Douglas “Fantastic kiwiana bach with a modern twist, perfect location for a relaxing break away from all the busyness of life.”
Close to the lake, loved it!
- Douglas, January 2024Andy “Well presented, well appointed, stunning location, couldn't fault it”
- Andy, November 2023Kerri “Our annual ladies getaway was another wonderful treat.”
We loved the Kiwiana vibe, tastefully decorated and clean, fireplace was ready to go. I want that fridge. The spa was well used by all of us, such a lovely view from it and the deck. Great to have the option of cover or not on the deck with plenty of seating. Surrounded by songs from Tui & Bellbird. I wish one of my mates told me there was complimentary ice cream in the freezer. There's also coffee, herbs, salt n pepper etc. We took our own as didn't know these things would be kindly provided. FYI Coffee pod machine takes standard star bucks. We all found the beds to be Very firm, but if you drink enough, you'll still sleep well. Also the BBQ was rather grubby, bird pop on hot plate and greasy, burnt it off and was good to go. Other than that, you won't be disappointed, it's truly a lovely place to relax. And thank you for sending the small items 1 lady left behind (there's always one aye). Recommended.
- Kerri, September 2023What a wonderful piece of feedback - we are thrilled to hear you enjoyed Kiwiana Bach! We have passed on the feedback regarding the BBQ and we thank you for taking the time to review your stay. Bachcare
Eleanor “This property is absolutely beautiful.”
I really like the retro decor in the lounge, with each bedroom being a different style. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the property. Whoever looks after the home is doing a great job. It had everything you needed, and I really enjoyed the hot spa pool and fireplace, with plenty of wood available. Instructions were clear throughout the home. Comfortable beds, good shower pressure. The view was stunning, better than the photos online. We felt very much at home here. Will definitely be back!
- Eleanor, September 2023Vanessa “A lovely bach.”
A little bit more kindling would have been good and some newspaper to get the fire going. Maybe some advice on how to get down for a walk along the lake edge from the bach, as we couldn't find it. Otherwise we had a lovely couple of days.
- Vanessa, September 2023Rose “A gorgeous, relaxing place to stay for a winter break.”
We loved the spa, the lake views and the beautiful retro-style decor. It was a shame the oven was switched off the first night but stuff happens:)
- Rose, July 2023Kerry “Great accommodation, comfy beds and the fire all set to be lit.”
The spa was devine- warm and such a lovely view. Had a great time thanks
- Kerry, June 2023Marian “Fabulous stay as always.”
Much needed break with plenty of laughs and relaxation. Spent most of our time in the spa or cooking up a storm on the bbq.
- Marian, May 2023Lynn “Great stay for an autumnal weekend.”
The wood fire was very cosy and the spa a welcome treat
- Lynn, April 2023Martin “Classic kiwi bach!”
Very chilled out vibe. Plenty of space to hang out wether it be in the lounge, kitchen, enjoying the views on the deck or in the spa.
- Martin, March 2023Charlotte “Stayed in this house with my family last year, with friends on this occasion and have it booked for my family again in October, we love it!”
! The only thing that could make it better would be wifi!
- Charlotte, March 2023Tiffiney “My friends reported a wonderful stay”
- Tiffiney, February 2023Zulema “Perfect place in a perfect location Our young family very much enjoyed.”
Thank you!
- Zulema, February 2023Rupert “Fantastic house in a fantastic spot.”
View of the lake from the deck was fabulous! Great space for the kids and teenagers to play cricket and the hot tub was awesome after swimming in the cooler lake. Would visit again!
- Rupert, January 2023Dennise “We had a wonderful stay at this property, it was very welcoming when we arrived, our family enjoyed the relaxed environment and even better it was child/teenage friendly also.”
It was a great place to retreat and come back to after venturing out and exploring during the day. Everything we needed was there. thank you again for sharing your home with us.
- Dennise, October 2022Shaz “Fantastic place to stay.”
Very clean and tidy. Great feel to it, fantastic views. Appreicated the heat pump being on when we arrived on a very cold night!
- Shaz, October 2022Nikki “The property itself was clean, nicely decorated, bright and well furnished.”
The location was wonderful overlooking the lake and had a spa and swings. We had a wonderful time. Unfortunately our stay was marred by the accusation we had damaged the spa nozzle and headrest. The headrest was repeatedly falling off and the nozzle was floating in the pool when we arrived. We had no reason to cause intentional damage and could not have physically pulled off either item. The nozzle was probably pushed out by the water jets and the headrest by fair wear and tear. Owners should consider this. Our first trip back to NZ in years and we were left feeling bitterly disappointed to be falsely accused and have no right of response, just charged without our consent.
- Nikki, September 2022Mariska “We really enjoyed our two night stay.”
This house was clean, had everything you needed in the kitchen (glasses, cutlery, crockery, big fridge/freezer), towels and linen was crisp and fresh, the jacuzzi was amazing, the view spectacular and the fireplace a welcome add on for a cool night (after using the jacuzzi outside) Of course for 9 ladies having one bathroom/toilet was a juggle, but we made it work. There is even a cupboard full of games in the one room which we unfortunately saw too late, as we were packing up
- Mariska, September 2022Kerie “We had such a lovely holiday at this gorgeous bach.”
Diane was so lovely to deal with and a great communicator. Every detail had been thought of, even the fire place was ready to be lit when we arrived and the spa set at 39 degrees. The bach was very clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Such a great location and lovely section for the children to explore. We are already looking forward to our next stay. Thank you so much! :-)
- Kerie, September 2022Sarah “Thanks so much for sharing your wee gem.”
We had a fabulous time. We love your artistic flare. Lots of cool things to look at. The kids enjoyed the spa as did us adults. We will definitely be back, maybe in summer next time. Love Tarawera very cool spot. Thanks again Sarah and Paul Burczynski

Lovely peaceful view. Cool interiors that obviously a lot of thought and love has gone in to. Well set up for Winter - heat pump, wall heaters, electric blankets and extra bedding. Couldn't ask for more. Well equipped kitchen. Would be gorgeous in Summer. Diane & Caitlin at Bachcare were wonderful to deal with. Quick to respond and nothing was a bother.
- Mary, July 2022George “Incredible spot amazing family holiday, felt like a long drive from Rotorua the first day we went out there but it's really not.”
.. And amazing views on the way, kids loved the bunks continuous arguments for the top. Next time will have to spend in the summer and bring the boat, 10/10 overall, fire place reminders of childhood, kids loved it.. could write for hours spent a week here and made lifetime memories with our kids.. don't look any further this place is a gem
- George, May 2022Teryl “This Bach has been tastefully decorated with lots of Kiwiana.”
It is in a great spot with a very easy and quick walk to the lake. There is plenty of different living spaces both inside and outside for a group to enjoy and spread put. The view is fabulous, the house was immaculate and the kitchen very well equipped. Highly recommend this for a couple of families.
- Teryl, April 2022Marian “I love this property and have stayed here a few times.”
The whole place is just comfy, homely and welcoming. The spa is the big draw card for us as well as the fabulous view. It's peaceful and relaxing and the house has everything you need for a home away from home. The property managers were super easy to contact and even left my daughter a little happy Birthday card and gift...thank you! Unfortunately we came down with covid during our stay
- Marian, March 2022Samantha “Our trip was really loverly and would love to stay again!”
The spa paired with the view was a great highlight :)
- Samantha, March 2022Casey “Loved our stay here.”
Homely, comfortable and amazing views. The spa was a hit with our two small pals, as too was the piano. Apologies to the neighbours for terrible renditions of Chop Sticks. Would 200% stay here again.

- Luzette, June 2020Tara “Kiwiana Bach is absolute paradise.”
The owners and Bachcare have thought of everything that you will need for a comfortable stay - a well resourced kitchen, mountains of firewood, and even electric blankets on the beds! You're only a minute walk from the beautiful Lake Tarawera and a short drive from all the main attractions in Rotorua. The views of the lake are stunning and adds to the tranquil setting. Joey the Holiday Manager was always quick to respond to messages (we could not meet him due to COVID restrictions) and the bach was immaculately clean on arrival. We are already planning when to go back in summer!
