“1) The use of a long extension cord across the length of the kitchen floor in order to supply power to the refrigerator and microwave poses a tripping hazard and is dangerous.”

Furthermore, the first time we used the microwave, it caused a power outage. We therefore had to unplug the microwave and could not use it for the remainder of our stay. 2) We found the barbecue in a deplorable state of filth and spent at least an hour cleaning it before it could be used. In fact, we had to go and buy a newspaper in order to deal with the accumulated grease and bits of food debris. This was all the more galling as we were charged a 'cleaning fee' – but we had to clean the barbecue ourselves in order to be able to use it. 3) The listing stated that a TV is available. However, this information is false, given that there is no access to Freeview in the unit. 4) We were supplied with only one towel each for a stay of 8 days – despite paying an exorbitant fee for the supply of linen. This meant that we had to phone Bachcare – wasting our holiday time – to request clean towels and teatowels. 5) The cutlery is in a parlous state and there is only one wine glass – in a unit designed for two people.

Hi Dina, thank you for providing feedback. The electrical issue has been fixed with a new power point, so that will not be an issue going forward, and new cutlery and wine glasses have been added. Since your review, the BBQ been replaced with a brand new one. The property has a Smart TV and Wifi. Bachcare

“My husband and I had a lovely time staying in the batch at Matapouri and would love to go back there again.”

It was comfortable and clean and had everything that you needed for a relaxing holiday. We met the Owners whilst we were there and they were such lovely friendly people and even passed in some of their grapes from their garden and home made cupcakes which I thought was such a kind gesture. I would like to mention that if anyone is looking for a nice place to stay then this is well worth a visit online, what you see in the photos is exactly what you get. A very cute little batch and you have nature right on your doorstep to enjoy as well as lovely walks and a beautiful beach to swim and relax on. Marcia & Ray Weaver

Our linen service will provide all sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mats, and tea towels for your stay. We’ll also make up the beds for you prior to arrival and strip them down after your departure. Pillows and duvets are provided at the property.

Please note there is a main dwelling onsite that may be occupied during your stay, and although there is a Smart TV, there is no Freeview provided. There is a DVD playerm, and an HDMI cable should the guest have their own device.

As there is access to an unfenced stream in the back garden, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water.

Please be aware this property does not have a full kitchen. A kitchenette with fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, and bench top mini-oven is available for use during your stay.

All guests should take extra care on the deck as there is no barrier to prevent falls.

About the location

A 10-minute drive from Tutukaka or a 2 hour 25 minute drive from Auckland and you'll find yourself in the marine paradise that is Matapouri. Matapouri is one of those idyllic spots, where every corner you turn you'll find yourself in awe as you stumble upon another azure blue cove lined with Pohutukawa or golden dunes. There's much to explore with Whale Bay nearby being accessed via a 15 minute bush walk, and of course the legendary mermaid pools a large natural set of rock pools set against the ocean perfect for swimming in at low tide.
