Kim “Great place to stay.”
Very relaxing. Would definitely go back
- Kim, September 2023Emily “Such a great spot!”
Super clean and tidy, so private and with such amazing bush all around and of course great beaches and surrounding towns. So great to be able to bring our little dog too, she loved being able to run around the massive garden. Only comment was there wasn't enough toilet paper left for us and we had to scramble for some tissues from the car on the last morning haha. But otherwise we had such a peaceful and cozy stay. Will definitely be back.
- Emily, April 2023Helen “Wonderful having so much space for our dog to run around on.”

- Helen, April 2023Kelly “Such a lovely spot, so peaceful listening to the birds and the stream.”
Weather was terrible but we had a lovely time regardless. Amazing space to be able to bring our dogs too. Bach has everything you need for a pleasant stay. Would definitely recommend.

- Trust, January 2023Vicki “Great little country getaway with super comfy beds and everything you need for a break.”
Location is great for a quick drive to the beach or local village for supplies. Loved how peaceful it was, and that the little vineyard up the lane was open for cellar door tasting. Highly recommend for a city escape. (Note - I packed the coffee plunger in error. Can a postal address be supplied so I can return it?)
- Vicki, December 2022Annie “Lovely property and perfect for a getaway and some peace and quiet.”
It is only 10 minutes drive to either Mangawhai or Mangawhai Heads, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet and still have action on your doorstep.
- Annie, April 2022Lyon “Rather not.”
Location is pristine and peaceful.

The property
Wake up to the sound of birdsong, native bush, and the tranquillity of this peaceful rural cabin. Welcome to Totara Folly! Enjoy the privacy of this beautiful location, surrounded by covenanted native bush with plenty of outdoor space. It's perfect for a couple or small family, with comfortable furnishings and homely touches to have you feeling right at home. Although the cabin is just one big room (42 square metres) with an attached bathroom, it feels spacious and very liveable. There's a well-equipped kitchen with a fridge, microwave, two induction hobs, kettle and toaster. The cabin opens out to a deck looking onto the large lawn and the surrounding forest canopy. The outdoor table and chairs are perfect for balmy summer evening sun-downers, with a BBQ for al fresco cooking and dining. The lawn is calling out for little feet to run around after a ball, or pull out the petanque set and have a game on the green! Your dogs will love this outdoor space too, and the large property is fully fenced and gated for their safety For winter stays, both an infrared wall heater and an electric oil-filled heater keep you toasty, while complimentary WiFi and a selection of books are on hand to keep you connected and entertained. Bring your own streaming devices (there is no TV). Totara Folly is in an excellent spot for vineyard hopping! Brooke Lane Vineyard is just down the lane ready to offer brilliant wine and gin tasting surrounded by beautiful scenery. There's also pleasant walking around the lanes in this lovely area, and access to the Tanekaha Track on the Brynderwyn Range nearby. If you’re wanting to hit the beach, you're spoilt for choice. Mangawhai surf beach is a 14-minute drive away, the estuary offers great swimming for smaller kids, and venturing further afield you'll find other great local beaches like Langs Beach, Waipu Cove, or Te Arai Beach all within a half-hour drive. There is also ample space to park a boat here at Totara Folly, with the Mangawhai boat ramp just 11 minutes’ drive away to launch for a day on the water. Spend your next escape to Mangawhai at the wonderful Totara Folly!
While this property is pet friendly, cats are not permitted (resource consent condition). Dogs are not permitted into the adjacent fenced covenant area (i.e. the forest) as it is part of a kiwi zone. The property is fully fenced with a gate, so dogs may be left outside with the gate closed.
During the winter and after periods of particularly heavy rain it may not be possible to drive all the way to this cabin. Guests may need to park at the end of the metalled driveway and walk approximately 100m to the cabin.
The bathroom at this property is accessed externally via the deck.
Please be advised this property does not have an oven. A microwave, two portable induction hot plates, kettle and a toaster are available for guests to prepare meals.
As there are sections of the deck without a barrier with a small drop on to grass, all guests should take care when using this area due to the risk of falls.
Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.About the location
