“Overall a disappointing stay at "At Cathedral Cove" holiday house, our group was excited about our stay as both the location and views from this house were exactly as shown in pictures and described by host.”
However, several aspects of the property turned out to be problematic. Upon arrival, the house was not cleaned to an acceptable standard where the kitchen sink, utensils and tableware, oven, bbq had noticeably black grime, and couches, dinner table + seats were stained and dirty, we had to spend a significant amount of time cleaning the house ourselves before settling in. The house lacked many basic kitchen supplies (aluminium foil, paper towels), appliances such as the dishwasher and laundry ...

The house lacked many basic kitchen supplies (aluminium foil, paper towels), appliances such as the dishwasher and laundry dryer were out of service, and were infested with an insect problem. Considering the price we paid for the stay, these problems were incredibly fustrating and certainly not the kind of experience we expected when booking a holiday house.

The view is amazing. It was nice and clean. The owner was quick to sort out the TV issue. Some of the beds weren't as comfortable as they looked. We would be happy to return but some of the group would like a bed update. Thanks.

Phillip “The property is dirty and has clearly not been properly cleaned for some time.”
There are insects and rubbish on the floor and under the beds and sofas. The range hood is covered in grease and grime. There are cobwebs in the corners of the walls complete with spiders, both dead and alive. The lounge furniture is greasy, dirty and smells. Underneath the cushions is full of rubbish, hairs and dead insects. The TV signal is supplied through a Dish TV satellite box, which has no remote. As a result there is only one channel available, and even this was only possible as one of the guests had some knowledge of setting up TV’s. The whole house, especially the downstairs bedroom and the sleep-out smells of damp. The beds are in a poor state of repair with rips and tears in the bases. The welcome pack was eventually found on top of the fridge, lying in a layer of grime and dust. It was not well presented and contained practically no information about the house or area. It appeared that it had been left there by the previous occupants and was simply a pile of papers. The inside of the kitchen pantry was dirty, which contained the glassware and cups. The curtains have got mould on them.

The property has since received a thorough Deep Clean, mould removed and a new Heat Pump has been installed to help with the dampness. I contacted bachcare who passed this back to the owner / manager… and nothing was done. It was revolting, truely revolting and no action was taken. We were told that if the manager could do something then they would… but they didn’t.

Anisha “The house is on great location with great views from the deck.”
However it needs some tlc. The house is dirty, rooms smell musty especially the sleep out. We had to take our own linen as it was too costly for them to provide it. Some of our linen smelt musty after using them at the house. The sleepout needs fly screens, a new bunk bed as it’s falling apart, and new mattresses. The single beds in the main house need new mattresses too, they were way too uncomfortable to sleep on.

Theresa “This property has a large deck with a great view, but the cleanliness is terrible.”
All of the curtains are mouldy, which means the whole house smells musty. The corners and under all the furniture have dead insects and dust. The shower clogs up and the shower head falls off the wall if you bump it. There were 4+ lightbulbs not working. There was an ant problem, but the fly spray was empty. There was not enough dishwashing liquid or toilet paper for 10 nights. We paid a lot of money and it was not at the quality expected. We left and came home early. What makes this more frustrating is that two days before our arrival I contacted Bachcare to ensure the house was clean and the BBQ in working order... I was assured it was. We arrived to find the BBQ had fungus growing on it as well as rat poo!! I emailed Bachcare about the BBQ and they did not reply. We could not use the BBQ. Very disappointed with our experience. Think we deserve a partial refund!

Toby “We had a nine night stay over the Christmas 2022 period.”
A diverse group of eight with myself, my wife, two youngest children, two elder children and both my parents. On a positive note we loved the layout and position of the house. Absolutely love the fabulous view and deck which we made full use of with the fabulous weather. Lovely position with Hahei. A short walk to shops and path to Cathedral Cove. On a negative note we were given 24 hours notice that no towels would be available at the property so had to purchase these which was quite expensive for a group of eight. Upon arrival we found there was a leak at the downstairs toilet which we notified the property manager of. It took a few days to get this rectified which meant that my elderly father was waking several times during the night to empty the bowl so the leak did not cause damage to the property. It would have been nice to have had this recognised. We found the general cleanliness was not great and the property could do with new mattresses in the single bedrooms. On balance, I would certainly stay here again though would like to hear that the cleanliness and mattress issues are rectified.

Leann “We did enjoy our stay, and the property had everything as listed.”
A couple of notes. We were very surprised that there were no sheets or towels or even bath mats included in the price of nearly $1000 US for 2 nights. We had to bring all our own, which really isn't convenient when on vacation. Also, it wasn't very clean when we arrived. There were some dead bugs around and crumbs, and an overall very musty smell. On a good note, the location was fantastic, and the home was large with plenty of beds. I would suggest maybe a good, thorough cleaning of drapes, carpets, etc. just to make it smell and look a bit fresher.

We had a great weekend with many activities to do. The only negative was that there was not enough hot water for 12 people, especially during the winter. The sleep out was nice and cosy with the heat pump but have got no toilet facilities, but other than that we had a great stay and weekend.

Good view and good for big family's. The sleep out room is not suitable to people to live. there are strong musty smell in room. All Duvet are damp. The room is no ventilation system and insulation. The sleep out room is not meet the health home standard. It is not suitable to rent without fix everything.

Some improvements/maintenance needed in the bathroom showerhead(2nd floor). Old house feels with old beds/lounge, furnitures but still comfortable. Other than that, The house had a great view for sunrise and stargazing. We enjoyed our stay!

Matasiva “Absolutely loved the location and the property overall.”
We got to visit the sights near by and had unlimited access to the hahei beach which was so beautiful and very clean. We had full access to the house and freedom to call it home for the few days we were there. We left feeling as though 3days was too short because it wasj ust beautiful over there. Thank you so much Bachcare for the excellent service and to the property manager Ray for being approachable and for helping us feel comfortable during our stay.

Great views of the ocean from the large deck. Comfortable lounge furniture and beds but disappointed with the thin pillows. Kitchen well stocked with crockery etc. Easy walk down to the shops but it is a steep walk back for anyone with mobility issues. House also has stairs which may be a problem for some. Would recommend this property

The deck and living areas are great and the view is amazing. We had adults and children sleeping in the sleep out and it was fine. Can walk everywhere beach/shops/cathedral Cove so great location. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return in the future.
