James “We loved staying at this property, it is a classic Kiwi bach that is in a perfect location to enjoy what I rate as the best beach in NZ.”
The bach itself is simple and functional, with a great outdoor area. Check in was easy with a lock box, property was cleaned to a good standard. Location wise it is Hahei beach front, very close to both Cathedral Cove (walkway is blocked but if you walk around you can still get there) and hot water beach where we enjoyed the thermal pools. The Pour House restaurant - home of Coromandel Brewing is 200 meters away, family owned with great food and craft beers. This place was perfect to chill and ...

Miriam “5/5. It's all about location, location, location!”
Sweet little house on the beach, perfect for 2 people. I would book it again in a minute. In fact, we hope to come back in 2025. Bachcare was responsive to questions or concerns I had. That said, I hope the owner buys a real umbrella and stand for the deck. The decrepit/ancient beach umbrella was inadequate for shade on the deck, as it lifted up and away from the table every time the breeze blew. Our only real criticism is that the kitchen needs a deep clean, including the cupboard shelfs, glassware, utensils, etc. We had to seriously scrub everything before we used it. But, as I said, neither of those issues would keep me from renting this house.
- Miriam, December 2023Milly “We weren't able to reach the property due to ever increasing slips and road closures, yet we're still charged the full price with no refund.”
This was very unfair.
- Milly, March 2023Corinne “We wanted a bach and it was; simple but lovely just by the sea.”
Unfortunately We had to cope with cyclone Gabrielle and it was awful so it is really difficult to share the experience. We had to leave two days before our departure because we were at risk to be so close from the sea and bachcare offered us to choose two other days during the year which was very honest and nice. Location was awesome. To sum up :location, location, location
- Corinne, February 2023Katie “Great location, great size entertainment area just a lot of power points not working and empty gas bottle for the bbq.”
Awesome house and the best location possible.
- Katie, December 2022Kane “I really cant rate this place highly enough, the location is perfect and the bach has a great relaxed feel.”
The decor is very much "NZ Bachy" which is great. If your after a down to earth beachfront easy going holiday break you cant beat this Hahei Bach. Thanks
- Kane, May 2022Grant “Lovely bachy bach on the beachfront.”
Toilet paper not provided so be sure to BYO, especially if arriving after shops have closed. If caught short, public facilities are close by.
- Grant, April 2022Matt “Absolutely unbeatable location but would not recommend the house for a winter visit.”
Very cold and damp, also the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The master bed is very very firm. Great spot, and others may get a great stay in summer, but we wouldn't return to this house.
- Matt, July 2021Thank you for your review, Matt! We're glad you enjoyed this property's amazing location and are sorry to hear you felt the heating and insulation aren't currently adequate for winter. We'll work with the property owners on ways to improve this. We're sorry that some insects that got in made the bach look unclean - we try to stay on top of these between bookings and will keep a closer eye gong forward! Bachcare
Cheryll “Fantastic location, nice Bach that is clean and spacious.”
Right on the beach and just a short walk to shops. Fantastic
- Cheryll, March 2021John “Perfect location for a traditional Kiwi summer beach holiday.”
- John, February 2021Carmen “Unbeatable location and great little Kiwi bach in yesteryear but spotless condition.”
We highly recommend
- Carmen, November 2020Karen “Beautiful original Kiwi bach right on Hahei beach with magnificent views and all day sunshine!”
The best location!
- Karen, October 2020Milly “Fabulous location practically right on the beach lots to do from chilling on the beach, swimming, kayaking, hiking to the Cove a short walk to the Cafes, a magical place to stay.”
Thank you Hahei.
- Milly, October 2020terry “A magic spot and everything we wanted within walking .”
We parked the car on arrival and it never got moved til the morning we left
- terry, March 2020madelyn “This bach is the quintessential kiwi bach with beachfront location - hard to find in short notice in Hahei.”
You feel like you are getting the most authentic kiwi holiday here, with it's excellent location, close to amenities, and great layout for the kids bedrooms. We had 8 days of amazing weather! The fenced lawn was a real bonus for the kids to run around in pre and post beach.
- madelyn, December 2019Terry “Property location is amazing.”
The batch could do with some tender loving care. It's very old and the cracks are beginning to show.
- Terry, November 2019Christopher “Amazing location, great old school traditional kiwi Bach.”
Yards from the beach
- Christopher, November 2019Llesa “The stay would have been great if we had been able to stay more than 1/5 of our booking.”
We were booked to stay five nights, the fifth night was for free. Unfortunately, one of our party was sadly airlifted to hospital on the second day which meant we all left urgently on that day. Bachcare have refused any credit or a stay at another off-peak time and have not responded to my reply as claiming travel insurance is not an option. We understand it was not Bachcare’s fault that we couldn’t stay for the full time booked but think the decision is rather harsh and disappointing.
- Llesa, October 2019We're sorry you had this unfortunate experience and the delay in which we dealt with your situation. As always we do try to balance our obligations to our owners and guests and we're glad we were able to eventually provide some resolution to this situation for you. Bachcare
Emma “Such a stunning location.”
The house was perfect for a mini break away. The front lawn was perfect for cricket and football with the boys. Having the beach right in your doorstep was amazing. I would definitely recommend
- Emma, October 2019Jan “Amazing spot.”
Perfect place!
- Jan, July 2019Abby “Fantastic location, clean and tidy home and excellent service (thanks John!”
). A wonderful place for a family holiday. Would happily stay again.
- Abby, July 2019Keeley “Great location right on the beach - absolutely beautiful view.”
Very quick walk up the street to the dairy and the couple of restaurants/Brewery in town.
- Keeley, March 2019Debbie “Amazing bach in an amazing location.”
Loved our stay!
- Debbie, March 2019Ken “Great location and rental.”
Comfy beds, great host, and amazing Hahei. Unfortunately, Bachcare charging overseas visitors for linen rental is ridiculous; especially with the growing competition from other vacation rental sites.
- Ken, March 2019Hi Ken, thank you for your feedback and we're so glad you loved the house and Hahei. We use commercial linen which is the reason for the rental charge, but definitely do appreciate your view on it and this is something we will look at going forward. Bachcare
Marie-Christine “We loved staying in Bachcare, the location is amazing, we could walk to the beach from the garden, and it is next to the ferry that takes us to Cathedral Cove, we saw a spectacular sunrise early in the morning on the sea in front of us, the house was practical and big enough for all of us ( 2 couples and one adult), everything needed to cook and eat on the terrace, buuuut.”
...we had an invasion of flies and mosquitos (it seems it happens at this time of the year), it was hot and we needed to leave the windows open but there was absolutely no screening anywhere. So we suggest you invest in screening and everything will be perfect!
- Marie-Christine, March 2019We are so glad you loved your stay and the location! It's true that beachside properties can invite flies and mosquitos who love the property as much as you do - we definitely recommend a good bug spray when you come back! Bachcare
CJ “Great location right on the beach but well fenced and safe for children.”
Quiet. Comfortable beds and great have Sky TV + Wifi. Hahei is incredible. Quite hot at night in the middle of summer so consider bringing a fan.
- CJ, February 2019We agree - Hahei is an amazing spot! Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Bachcare

Superb location, great Kiwi look and feel, nice and clean inside.
- Jan, December 2018katie “Loved this little Bach on the beach.”
A traditional kiwi Bach that you can relax in and enjoy. Lots of books and games around to fill the evenings. A perfect view and on the beach front was just what we needed. Thanks for a great stay. We would love to return.
