Marja “Very hard to see where the property is on a very rainy afternoon.”
Cups weren’t clean, bread in the oven still, windows covered in cobwebs outside. TV instructions not clear so couldn’t see tv. Just disappointed all round

Tracy “So lovely and sunny.”
We had all we needed. Place was lovely and clean. Linen was clean and crisp. Towels were the same. View was to die for. Great location. Wonderful bird life. Parking is tricky though and would only recommend having adults or older teenagers staying downstairs as stairs to access are external. Didn’t bother us as kids slept upstairs with us. We loved it so much and will be back. BBQ didn’t work which was a pity. Big bonus….a proper shower with a door and with good pressure and no manky shower curtain like so many bachs. We loved it. Thanks for having us.
- Tracy, October 2024Thanks for lovely review. Sorry about the barbecue. Will remedy this right away. Bachcare
Kylie “In all honesty we loved our stay so much that we didn’t want to leave.”
Everything that we needed was there. We were a bit sceptical at first as we took our 3 year old with us, and he is full of so much energy likes to adventure and climb. But he loved it just as much as we did.. I would highly recommend treetop bach to anyone who is looking for something that has space and awesome views! Nga Mihi very satisfied customers
- Kylie, October 2022Tracie “Very comfortable stay with everything needed and a great location.”
- Tracie, February 2022Liz “Great little family Bach in a great location.”
Has everything you need but could be much cleaner.
- Liz, January 2022Irene “We loved the location, view and how well equipped the Bach was.”
We think the balcony balustrades are not safe for a family with children. This is alluded to in the information about the Bach but lots of people don’t read details.
- Irene, December 2021Jackie “Great kiwi bach, good location, amazing views.”
Read the description carefully - it is split level with no internal access to the lower rooms which are more like dorm rooms. The bedrooms and toilets downstairs are all accessed individually from outside so not suitable for young kids getting up in the night to the toilet etc. our kids were too scared to sleep downstairs by themselves. It’s fine as long as your aware of that - I didn’t read the description clearly.
- Jackie, January 2021Sally “This was the perfect place for a family holiday, with a combination of ages ranging from 63 to 7!”
The layout of the bach ( one bedroom upstairs and 3 downstairs, plus two bathrooms) meant that it felt quite private. It's homely rather than luxurious but it has everything you need and more. The location is marvellous -literally amongst the treetops with a fabulous view of the coastline and islands- yet a quick walk down to the gorgeous beach! The walk up the last part of the hill could be a bit challenging for a person with any mobility issues. Lovely to wake up to the sound of birdsong and cicadas and the distant rumble of the waves on the beach. We will definitely try to come back next year!
- Sally, January 2021John “If you like an old-fashioned kiwi bach, not necessarily sparkling clean or 100% maintained but in a great location with lovely sea views, this is the spot.”
- John, December 2020Kayla “Great spot, handy to catherdral cove and beach.”
Fantastic view and plenty of room. Would stay here again easily!
- Kayla, January 2020Kelvin “Treetop Bach, Hahei is just what we were looking for in an escape from Auckland.”
Great location which was the perfect distance from Hahei centre where there is a lovely cafe, good fish and chips and a friendly general store, so we could walk in for provisions or to the beach. A short car ride from the start of the Cathedral Cove walk and well-placed for HotWater Beach and Whitianga. The Bach was a perfect setup for our family with a grown-up space at the top and the teenagers could migrate downstairs to their own bedrooms and bathroom. The kitchen was very small but well-stocked with all we needed. Had to be creative on one night when we had to cook pasta in batches as there was no pan large enough to do a family-sized quantity of spaghetti, but not too difficult to improvise. Loved waking up to the stunning view over Hahei Beach which was magical and beautiful even when we got some rain. A serene, relaxing space that we will return to. It's not for you if you want a glitzy stay away, but for us, who wanted a down-to-earth Bach it was the perfect antidote to city-living. We will be back!
- Kelvin, September 2019GDPR “Cozy, funny house with beautiful view.”
Bedrooms downstairs are a bit claustrophobic and small.
- GDPR, March 2019Hi Marleen, thanks for the feedback. Yes, this is a very traditional Kiwi bach so the rooms are a bit small compared to what we are used to now! Bachcare

The property
Treetop Bach is a 1970's modular traditional bach at Hahei Beach. With nice views of Hahei Village and Mercury Bay, this simple but cute bach is in a great location. This Hahei holiday home has two levels. The upper level has an open plan lounge and dining area, with a very small kitchen. Off the lounge is the master bedroom, with a queen bed and a bathroom. The second level of this Hahei accommodation is accessed via external stairs. In the lower level you will find 3 smaller bedrooms and a new bathroom. The first 2 bedrooms each have 2 single beds, and the third bedroom has 1 single bed. This property is most suitable for a family with older children who are able to be semi-independent downstairs. Treetop Bach is private and tranquil, and gets all day sun. It is set in a beautiful bush position and is walking distance from the shops and beach. As an older bach it is 'comfortable' rather than modern, with kitchen in tidy but original form. Due to the elevated upper deck, this house may not be suitable for small adventurous children who could climb the rails. Otherwise, this is good family accommodation, and makes for a great base in Hahei. Enjoy all Hahei has to offer while staying at this cute, classic kiwi bach!
As the deck barrier is below 1 metre high, all guests should take care in this area due to the risk of falls. As indicated in the photos the battens are horizontal and there is a significant drop to the ground below.
The access to this house is across a right of way. Only 2 cars can be parked in front of the house and no parking is allowed on the driveway leading to the property.
The second level of this Hahei accommodation where 3 bedrooms are located is accessed via external stairs, not connected through the inside of the house.
The potbelly fire is not for guest use.
