“This is the second time we have stayed here as it suits our family of 6 adults.”
There was no hot water the evening we arrived and we had to turn it on at the fuse board. Although it is cleaner than the first time it is still not up to an expected standard. Windows could do with a clean. Black hairs in the shower and vanity and an uncleaned toilet in the ensuite is not acceptable when you are charged a cleaning fee. A few more pillows on the beds would be great and a new rubbish bin. Please check the lightbulbs especially on the deck.

And one of the best baches we've stayed in as two family groups. A new jug and toaster wouldn't go astray, maybe a new rubbish bin too! But when it comes to function - this is the place to stay. Great deck, loved the views, awesome to have three toilets and showers, friendly neighborhood, we really enjoyed this holiday.

Bachcare service was not great . Key details incorrect and it took several hours and multiple phone calls to sort it out. We had a two year old child with us who had travelled for several hours . Perhaps they need to have a property manager available on arrival/depature!!!

There were no instructions for the property appliances etc that we could find. We drove down from Auckland after very long haul flights. On arrival, we were not able to run hot water and it took some searching to rectify this. Despite 2 emails about it to Bachcare we got no reply or assistance. We found the fuse switch eventually which was off, then had to wait for the tank to heat water. I had to make up the beds downstairs with the sheets I requested and paid for. There were fish scales in the kitchen sink plug hole which I had to remove. There were lots of tiny ants on the kitchen table and coming up onto the sink area. The dish brushes were dirty too so they were not used. Tea towels were provided in our linen package, but no dishcloth. The only heater was an old gas fire on wheels with no safety or lighting instructions on how to use. We worked out how to use it but you had to turn off the gas bottle to turn it off. Potential health and safety issue indoors, especially if anyone were to stand/walk by near! It heated the room well but a window should be open!! The barbecue was filthy so we didn’t use it. The bathroom fan downstairs did not work so they had to come upstairs to use the showers. Not easy for a disabled elderly person. Parking access to the garage would also have helped a disabled elderly person as the driveway is steep and made getting into the house more difficult. The downstairs fridge was not switched on and looked mouldy so we did not use it. We did not use/inspect laundry facilities. There was some noise from the overlooked campground. The communal spaces were nice to sit in upstairs. The views upstairs of the sea were lovely. We did not access the beach from the house. Luke’s Kitchen restaurant/cafe was amazing. The village store served enormous delicious ice creams. We had good weather thankfully.

Well set up but it was in need of a good clean. Downstairs is musty and also needed cleaning.

The guests who slept in the downstairs room next to their garage had to clean the room thoroughly before sleeping in there. The carpet is old and stained which you can’t spot in the photos, it also has a musty smell. The views from the house are beautiful and it’s a very short walk to the beach. The lounge area can seat only 7 people. We were at the house during wet weather, the foyer area of the house leaked.

That being said, it’s clear from the get go that the bottom floor was not part of the initial floor design, which was unfortunate considering the bulk of the rooms was there. 2/3 rooms had VERY limited lighting and the room next to the garage had a very strong musty/petrol smell permeating the entire room. There were also numerous bugs/roaches throughout the house and some of the furniture could use a good clean. The main issue was however with the Wifi. The property is advertised as having wifi, yet on the first day the wifi was already quite unstable but for the remainder of the trip it completely shut down. This severely impacted our plans for movie night/ live streaming to family/ and friends / emergency work calls etc, more so since there was also no reception (couldn’t access phone data). When we reached out to Bachcare they told us to reach out to Spark and when we called Spark they said to call Bachcare - really futile and annoying. Considering the price we paid (almost $650 per night) you’re probably better off booking motels near the area than this house. 5/10

The property
The Glass House is a 5 bedroom Kuaotunu holiday home with glorious views of the ocean, islands and surrounds. You'll love being a minute's walk from the beach! The Glass House is a 2 storey, bright and comfortable holiday home with a great set up for the family. The indoor/outdoor living is fantastic, with the upstairs living area flowing out to the generous decking. Make the most of the beach atmosphere and summer living! There is a BBQ provided, and the island bench is ideal for serving up a feast. Enjoy outdoor dining, or take a seat indoors with perfectly positioned dining to take in the views! There is sleeping for 8 adults, plus up to 3 children, at this Kuaotunu accommodation. On the lower level of The Glass House you will find 3 bedrooms - two with a Queen bed each, and another with a single bed plus a single bunk set. There is a bathroom located on this level, as well as a kitchenette and a living area opening out to a patio with seating. On the upper level of this home are two bedrooms - the master bedroom with ensuite is fitted with a King bed, and offers stunning views as well as deck access via floor to ceiling glass doors! The second bedroom upstairs is fitted with a Queen bed, and also provides lovely views and deck access...Lay in bed with coffee, the newspaper, and stunning outlook to start your day!! With an additional separate toilet and separate basing and shower on this level, the layout of The Glass House allows space and comfort for 2 families holidaying together, 1 large family, or 4 couples...
