Raewyn “Lovely property and fabulous view.”
Great that the air con was left on for our arrival as it was a hot muggy day. A few things would make it spectacular- e.g., a set of wine glasses rather than 2 odd ones and sharpened knives. Overall happy with our stay

Andrew “Great place in a stunning location, house was really clean and tidy and everything laid out nicely for us on arrival.”
Think the view is hard to beat! Dishwasher was broken (not sure how long it had been broken) and in general the house felt like it was lacking a few touches (bit short on plates for 5 people) and the property information could be touched up a bit on where stuff is/ sign out process. Overall an amazing place though and would use again, there are some comments about noise from the ferry but this was no bother at all for us and the view was well worth it!
- Andrew, January 2024Merita “Thank you property owner for allowing us to stay at your bach.”
Such a lovely getaway spot for the family. Very clean, neat & tidy with an amazing scene from the deck watching the car ferries haul over vehicles from one side to the other. Just a small suggestion to lay rubber mats on the shower floors as it can get quite slippery which could cause unexpected slips and falls. Ensure you bring enough goods for the fridge & cupboards, it's a long way to get supplies. Other than that we totally enjoyed our stay there, so nice to wake up to the beautiful scenery outside. Would definitely recommend it to any potential holiday makers.
- Merita, March 2023James “We really enjoyed our stay despite the rainy weather.”
There was at one point a minor leak above the kitchen sink coming from the edge of the skylight (just a few drips). We saw quite a few ants around this time also! But all understandable given the terrible weather and the climate. The lack of working WiFi was a bit disappointing but we understand that this may be a general issue for Okiato at this time of year. Location, set-up and view were all wonderful. We would visit again.
- James, December 2022James “We stayed in this wonderful Bach for 5 nights and had a great time.”
Awesome views and the kids loved catching the ferry which was right at our doorstep.
- James, April 2022Grace “The home was so clean but I don't believe it makes clear how loud the road noise and boat noise is - its situated directly above the ferry boat wharf and gets loud traffic/boat noise from 6am till 10pm.”
Also the home was very very very musty smelling which was uninviting. Apart from these two issues the place was neat and tidy. The location is ideal if your traveling round the Bay of Islands but isn't very peaceful if your to spend time at this house.

- Mary, March 2021Anthony “The Tides is a terrific bach for a family or 2 couples .”
Right at the ferry you can either zip across to Opua , Piahia or do the 10 min drive to Russell. Well appointed - warm enough for a winter stay with great deck outside to sit and have your sundowners and watch the boating traffic in Opua. Great spot - we will be back.
- Anthony, July 2020Dan “Great spot, tidy, and great indoor / outdoor living.”
Stunning view and very comfortable, recently renovated amenities. Great layout for multiple guests. The car ferry noise is noticeable from early (circa 6am) til late (10pm) even with doors and windows shut. However being so close to the ferry allowed for extremely easy transport.
