Nicholas “Great place to stay!”
Really lovely bach. Ligar Bay is nice, there's no facilities there other than the beach though. Pohara is only 5 mins away and Takaka 15, so the location is pretty good if you don't mind a tiny bit of driving. The only downside to the bach is that the room with four single beds gets pretty hot and stuffy (we were there mid-summer so not unexpected). The bedrooms, kitchen, shared space, and outside spaces were all excellent. Highly recommended!

Jemma “Absolutely stunning accomodation.”
The perfect location and the most unique bach you’d ever find. Close by to Abel Tasman, heaps to do in the area but secluded enough to have a peaceful holiday. The house has all necessary amenities and it looks like the owners pay attention to guest comments too. We noticed new blinds up in the crows nest, new mattresses on the double beds, and the missing coffee plunger is back. There are new pans and toaster as well. I’ll be recommending to all my friends - thank you so much.

The toaster was broken & needs replacing the up stairs toilet needs some tlc but the prompt bringing of xtra linens was great device
- Jackie', February 2023Nicky “This property is unique and in an amazing location.”
The outlook and view from the top was stunning. The facilities were all fine, except for the lack of wifi (understandable). However the space wasn't really very practical as there was no central communal area. The stairs up snd down could be awkward or unsafe for many people. The kitchen was fine but small and the table set up in the carport not ideal, as the main sun was on the other side, we found moving the table and chairs through to the front worked best! The tiny upstairs bathroom was handy and cute but not really workable. We loved the character of the place, but think this would really only work for specific groups/individuals, so you might need to make this clear in future.

Jenny “Stunning from the outside.”
The wood fire was great. Views were great . Really fun. Some of the basics were lacking which took the shine off our stay. The blinds in the upper floor mostly didn’t work & were damaged. The mattress( main bedroom) had a worn hammock shape & needed replacing . No coffee plunger. Tea pot was for one with not tea strainer. Mattress protectors jn the kids room literally fell apart. I was really quite shocked. The frying pans were very worn & the non stick side of the pans was gone . The handles on the pans were loose which I managed to tighten.I felt the rental was depending on the novelty factor & not what was inside. This was not maintained , especially the kitchen. It could be improved so easily with a few quality items which would transform the place . It felt unloved. Fixing these few things would really make a big difference & actually so easy to fix. Good luck.
- Jenny, September 2022Kia ora Jenny, Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention and we're sorry to hear that they spoiled your visit. That fell short of the standard we expect to offer, and I do hope that you were nonetheless able to enjoy plenty of what Golden Bay has to offer. Since your visit, we have bought new mattresses and mattress covers for the beds and replaced the frying pans, and missing coffee plunger . We have made plans for installing new blinds in the Crow's Nest (not easy in the context of this unique building!). With these changes, it is now back to the standard we expect and our previous guests enjoyed. We're excited to have you book with Bachcare soon. Bachcare
Angela “Fabulous property, full of creativity, craftsmanship, artistic eye and love.”
We loved the different aspects each level offers: great to watch the sunset from the top level or to enjoy lunch outside at ground level. Potbelly stove kept us nice and cosy even in Midwinter frosty night. Such a lovely place, highly recommended. Thank you!

- Prakash, April 2022James “A very unique and special place.”
Every detail, from the landscaping, plates and even light fittings makes you feel that you are staying in a real lighthouse.
- James, April 2021Jodie “A unique place to stay, the kids loved the area and it was a handy walk to the beach with plenty of little areas to hang out.”
Not ideal if you want a large area for a big group to hang out in as communal spaces were small, but everything was as advertised.

Quirky and a bit small (for our large family). But such fun; the whole experience was great. Thank you!

The property
A holiday home like no other, you can't look past The Lighthouse! Built as a replica Cape Cod style lighthouse, complete with winding staircase up to the stunning crow’s nest with its 360° balcony and a commanding view of the bay and beyond to Farewell Spit. With windows on all sides and great views to the sea, this will be nothing short of unfortgettable. Maybe you have a romantic getaway planned or a boating break with friends or the quintessential family beach holiday; The Lighthouse offers something special and unique. In Winter, The Lighthouse has a traditional wood-burning stove in the kitchen/dining area, creating a real heart to this home. Then in Summer, take your pick from two sundecks, a BBQ, plenty of outdoor space, plus room to park the boat! The master bedroom, just below the Crow’s Nest, has a small en-suite and its own balcony. The lower lounge, which opens out to the lower deck area, has a pull-down queen size double bed. A further four beds are in the loft bedroom above the utility and family bathroom and a separate guest toilet on the other side of the property. Situated in beautiful Ligar Bay and a 5-minute walk from the sheltered beach and just a few kilometers from the northern end of the classic walking track through the Abel Tasman National Park. Guided and self-guided kayaking is available at Tata Beach, just 2kms down the road. Boat ramps at both Tarakohe Harbour and Tata Beach are just minutes away. Nearby Takaka has plenty of cafes, craft, art, shops and even a cinema, for the occasional rainy day. Totaranui, Awaroa, Wainui Waterfall, Pupu Springs, Mussell Inn, Farewell Spit and the truly incredible Wharariki Beach - the choices are endless. A real taste of life in a lighthouse but with those comforts of home, this is sure to be a hit no matter the audience - The Lighthouse welcomes you.
All guests should take care when accessing the upper levels as this is accessed via a winding spiral staircase and may not suitable for toddlers or guests with impaired mobility.
As there is a retaining wall without a barrier and a drop to the driveway, all guests should take care in this area due to the risk of falls.
Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.About the location
