Wendy “We had an amazing time staying at this beautiful lodge!”
The underground heating system kept us warm and cozy throughout our winter stay, making it the perfect retreat. The lodge is also pet-friendly, which made us feel right at home with our furry friend. The owner thoughtfully provided everything we needed for our 3-night stay, ensuring a harmonious and comfortable experience. We can’t wait to return for another visit—highly recommended!

Sarah “What an absolutely beautiful home.”
Everything and more you need and very comfy beds. Loved everything about it. Only thing that would have been handy would have been some instructions/info about certain things in the house, for example we didn’t find the stereo system hidden in a cupboard until the last day after searching high and low. So amazing being able to take the dogs as well, just note it’s not fully fenced. We would definitely stay again.
- Sarah, July 2024Hinemoa “Absolutely amazing and beautifully appointed cosy lakeside home.”
We loved getting up - and coming home to the cosy underfloor heating! Movie night in front of the fire, or cards at the big table, all contributed to making this a wonderful family winter getaway.
- Hinemoa, July 2024Sarah “A beautiful holiday home, perfect for a mid winter break.”
It was really comfortable and in a great location. The only recommendation would be to have some info/ instructions for the house. We had to call up for wifi details.
- Sarah, July 2024Aaron “Wow beautiful property great value for money”
- Aaron, January 2024Rob “Superb location for a getaway.”
We felt relaxed and at home instantly on arrival. The views were spectacular and being able to open up the house onto the deck brought them even closer. And, being able to walk down a track to the lake capped it off. It was quiet so you could here the bird life and all the different living spaces meant we were all able to chill when needed. Everything about it was comfortable and welcoming. We’ll definitely come back!
- Rob, January 2024Stacey “Great property!”
Well equipped. Was very impressed to have shower gel, shampoo and conditioner included. I can see that the manager has considered all previous feedback and made adjustments where possible. There was also coffee, seasonings etc. What a treat to have! Only suggestions are to include a welcome book which has important information in like where the power switches are for the TV and lights in the main lounge, rubbish day, what not to use (eg the skylight blinds). Would be helpful to tape the do not use sign to the switches so people can clearly see the signs. Also would be good to have some recycling bins at the house as we accidently used the downstairs tenants ones. Otherwise, great stay. Comfortable beds, warm, great views and plenty of space! Loved it
- Stacey, December 2023Kathy “The house and lakeside location were exactly as described and the facilities ideal for our family Christmas stay for six adults and two infants.”
Two points to improve the guest experience: Some instructions about rubbish collection day and time would have been helpful as we only found out by luck when the collection was actually under way and had to place ours further up the road (thanks to a passerby who noticed the truck had already passed by). There is only one small chopping board provided for food preparation which we found completely inadequate - a few dollars spent at Briscoes would rectify this meaness.
- Kathy, December 2023Rosanne “Absolutely love the house and location.”
I am a B and B owner and I could not fault the cleanliness. House well equipped equipment wise except needs another couple of chopping board or wooden board for pots or oven trays so as not to damage the beautiful bench. Regarding basic supplies. This is a holiday home used by a family which is also rented out. There were supplies that we weren't sure if they were for us or the families so we made sure we replaced things that were there once we got to the shops. As the kitchen is a working kitchen there was not a lot of space to put our foodstuffs separate to theirs and unfortunately came back with their malt vinegar. Sorry guys. There was a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom and handsoaps but you need to bring your own shower soaps and shampoo etc. In the families supplies there was a small amount of sugar, tea and coffee which we replaced but you need to bring milk. Basically bring all your own food stuff including salt/ pepper . There is an expresso coffee machine and a grinder. Wasn't sure if the laundry detergent was available for guests but we bought our own as soon as possible. Amazing Maytag washer and dryer. I need one. Cleaning products were in good supply and there were a couple of blue chux cloths. Pot scrub will be needed for oven trays and frypans.. The appliances were a European design and worked differently to what I was used to but the appliance books are in a draw in the kitchen and there were some notes in the guide. Maintenance needs - Toilet seats all need tightening Downstairs front bedroom has issues with water running through and refilling every half hour or so during the night but there are doors that can be shut. When underfloor heating works it is amazing but when thermostat is adjusted it went offline and we could not reset it.. Some more wood was supplied by house manager but the notes in the book that said that there is a key to the wood shed were not up to date. Someone came to reset heating but it went offline again. We did not go cold though as we brought down the two bedroom heaters and used them once the wood ran out. We were cosy and the bedrooms were in no way cold. All the beds very comfortable as were the sofas and chairs. Wifi modem is in the garage so wifi is better at that end of the house. A bit sketchy in other places but we did have 7 people with phones. Smart TV but you need your own sign in on streaming apps. Could not get Sky to work or live TV but watched TV 1 and 2 through TVNZ+ app. Lots of DVD's Plenty of room in driveway for three cars with independent backing if parked carefully. Overall we had a relaxing holiday in the most beautiful and luxurious house I have ever rented. The house and books and DVD's made it a lovely place to be stuck on a wet and cold week. A couple of maintenance tweeks will make this the best holiday house ever. PS the house notes said there was a tenant in a flat but they were not there the entire week and I wondered if they had moved out..
- Rosanne, September 2023Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this very detailed feedback as this is very helpful for us. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon! Bachcare
Anna “We had a wonderful stay at Kauawhi Lodge.”
It was a beautiful, quiet spot with easy access to the lake edge and lake edge walkway. Also only a few minutes drive to Taupo town centre and also the infamous mosaic (L'Art) café. Very comfortable lounge and seating areas whether eating or relaxing inside or outside at different times of the day. Please note there is a tenant on the property (which caught us by surprise as we didn't realize the property is tenanted). Their accommodation is under the main deck, opening out onto the lower lawn. We loved this property, but would prefer if there wasn't a tenant, it just made us a bit more self-aware and less relaxed knowing someone else is on the property.
- Anna, January 2023Sunil “Lovely property, was perfect for a couple of families.”
Well equipped in a great location with immediate lake access.
- Sunil, December 2022Sarah “Advertising of this accommodation is very accurate.”
It is comfortable, well equipped and the location is very special. We were fortunate with the weather so spent our time outside. Fyi One of the outside chairs on lakeside deck had a split armrest ( found on arrival) which my son fixed for you ( builder in Taupo). We loved our stay at this lodge and will highly recommend it to our friends and family. We are expecting the refund of a $750 bond paid at booking. There were no breakages or damage. Many thanks we will certainly rebook for the next family gathering.
- Sarah, December 2022Paula “I used to work for Bachcare & looked after this property.”
I had been a dream of mine to come and stay here. We enjoyed it a great deal. Would love a summer stay so that we could enjoy the beautiful bay more. Gorgeous!!
- Paula, October 2022Helen “A beautiful home in a fantastic location.”
Everything you need is provided, including the open fire ready to go on arrival. Right on the lakeside, it was beautiful in the cool spring weather and I can only imagine how lovely the home would be to stay in over the summer months. We hope to stay at Kauawhi Lodge again.
- Helen, September 2022Sharon “Omg if we didn’t love the place enough before, it is next level with the underfloor heating going.”
And open fire in winter. It was for a my mums 75th birthday and it was just perfect. - she loved it. Thank you again for sharing your home with our family and our dog x x
- Sharon, July 2022Alexandra “Had a wonderful weekend away with the family at Kauawhi Lodge, highly recommend.”
Great location and has everything you need.
- Alexandra, June 2022Jane “This is a stunning property which has ample space for larger groups, both to have quiet time separately and to come together as a big group.”
The kitchen is well equipped with most things that you would need for self-catering. We used the log fire which made the living room feel cosy as the underfloor heating was not working during our visit, however I would imagine this adds to the feeling of luxury that the quality furniture and layout of this property gives. The quiet location and views over the lake are great whatever the weather and it is only a short drive to Taupo township. We would love to visit this property again with our family however our stay was marred by poor management from Bachcare. There were a few aspects of the property where maintenance/cleanliness could be improved and we found Bachcare's communication to be very poor.
- Jane, May 2022James “This is a superb site nestled on the shores of lake Taupō.”
It is a beautiful architectural designed home that is furnished to a high level. Great entertainment area's, the home is both family and pet friendly . A short walk to the bay brasserie that in itself was a great surprise.
- James, April 2022Susan “A beautiful location by the lake and a very welcoming home.”

- Susan, April 2022Paul “Spotlessly clean, beautiful decor, spacious, quiet, warm and stunningly picturesque”
- Paul, March 2022Sharon “Awesome. Just awesome.”
This is a very special place to stay that was just perfect for a special weekend with friends and the dog. This isn’t a Bach it’s a beautiful holiday home that wraps around you and takes care of you for the weekend. Great kitchen with everything you could possibly need - just bring good food .
- Sharon, January 2022Rachel “Awesome spot, with amazing history to take u on a special journey aswell as a holiday”
- Rachel, January 2022Simone “I would prefer not to leave a public comment.”
The trip was otherwise great but not helped by the smell of fish that permeated through the eating area every time the fridge was opened.
- Simone, January 2022angharad “This place is truely amazing, we absolutely loved our time here being so close to the lake for multiple daily swims and enough room for the whole family.”
Even better we could bring our dog. Will definitely be rebooking this place.

Clean, quiet and tidy with spectacular views and close proximity to the lake and other amenities made our stay very special. Would highly recommend this bach.
- Karen, December 2021Mark “If you love the location of Acacia Bay then you'll also love Kauawhi Lodge.”
It's a very spacious property located in a stunning location of Acacia Bay. It's a 4min walk to the local Acacia Bay Store or The Bay Bar (next door) or 10 minute drive into central Taupō CBD or all of the adrenaline activities surrounding Huka Falls. You would be crazy to overlook this property if you are looking for a spacious property in a quiet area close to the water's edge.
