Ivan “Our dog had to be euthanised the day before we we due to arrive and unlike other booking sites there was zero flexibility in changing dates and no opportunity to communicate with the host to discuss options.”
we only wanted to change dates not cancel. I wouldn't recommend.

Tania “A beautiful bush haven.”
We liken it to a tramping hut, but with full kitchen and hot water! :). Thank you for sharing it, we will be back. It would have been made perfect with a couple of kayaks to borrow. We did a bit of needed hut duty (sweeping back porch and cleaning the BBQ). The only thing was that on arrival we found 3 of the deck chairs were broken (we stacked them in the shed) and 2 of the dining chairs were also broken (one we used but it was a bit dodgy, and one was in the back porch). Many thanks.
- Tania, October 2023Hi Tania. Thank you for reviewing your recent stay at Lakefront at Kuratau. We apologise that your experience here started off with maintenance and will address this with our local team for future bookings. Thank you for letting us know about the broken chairs as well. Bachcare
Aida “This is truly a sixties Kiwi bach, and we loved it, with young children it was perfect.”
Lots of swimming, fishing and relaxing. Hope to book again this time next year.
- Aida, January 2023Robin “My criticism of this house is that it felt dirty, couches are disgusting and felt yuck to touch I have to say.”
Barbecue - not sure when that was last cleaned. No vacuum cleaner but broom and shovel to keep the floors clean. On a more positive not beds are old but we all found them very comfortable. Some criticism from past visitors of not being able to see the lake - this was not a problem lake edge is right there and the front deck is very private and sunny. I would definitely return to this house maybe not in winter - would be freezing but that applies to most of the older baches in Kuratau.
- Robin, January 2022Thank you for your feedback, Robin. We appreciate you taking the time to detail how your experience here could be more comfortable. Since your booking, we have identified some issues with the local management of your property which have now been addressed. Also, a deep clean has been done of the property to return it to a great standard. Bachcare
Matt “Great bach, very neat on the lake front surrounded by bush and native birds.”
Beach wasn’t busy which was really nice. Highly recommend
- Matt, January 2022Caprice “Our family booked over Xmas.”
Great spot for a Bach! Right on the water. Furniture badly needs upgrading as couches are dusty and beds very well aged, not ideal for anyone with a bad back. And finally, when we arrived the state of the Bach was extremely untidy. We spent an entire day cleaning. Large dust/soot deposits right round the edges of all flooring. Random junk/bedding piled up in the corner of room. Used bloodied plaster found right in entrance of bedroom, junk stuffed behind draws. Dusty. All carpet needed vacuuming and hard floors we had to sweep and mop. We are not a fussy family and absolutely love the kiwi Bach vibe but the uncleanliness was very unhygienic.
- Caprice, December 2021Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and we have addressed the cleaning with our local team. Our sincere apologies that this was not to standard. The owner has now replaced all beds and we do hope that you rebook soon to experience this. Bachcare

We live local in Turangi and that was the best idea booking that bach

Stephen “If you want a rustic 60s Bach by the lakefront with pets then this is great.”
Do not expect all mod cons and the beds are soft not good for those with bad backs.
- Stephen, April 2021Thank you for your feedback, Stephen. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the lakefront location of Lakefront at Kuratau. The owners have now replaced all the beds, we look forward to welcoming you back. Bachcare
Rob “This is a simple, traditional family bach in a stunning location.”
If you want luxury and up to the minute mod cons look elsewhere, but if unpretentious, practical accommodation by the lake, set amongst bush and bird song, sounds like your cup of tea, you’ll love this place as much as we do.
- Rob, January 2021Miriam “This is a well located little bach.”
However (as previous reviewers have noted), the beds are very old and uncomfortable and need replacing, and both the dishwasher and dryer weren't working as advertised . Also, the photos are misleading - the garden has not been managed and the trees have completely obscured any view of the lake, which was really disappointing. I hope these issues will finally be addressed, especially at the rental price - they are letting down what is otherwise a great little holiday home.
- Miriam, January 2021Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback, Miriam and we are delighted to let you know that the beds have been replaced. Bachcare
Bridget “We had an awesome stay and the location and privacy was the best.”
Everything you needed in an old bach. We had 2 teenage sons and that was loads of room in the small house. 2 other family members stayed in the sleepout with a baby. Only major issue is the main bed was way too soft. Not good for anyone with back issues. We would definitely stay again (if there was a new bed)
- Bridget, December 2020We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at this fabulous bach Bridget and great news, the owner has replaced all the beds. We hope to welcome you back soon! Bachcare
Keith “Hi Mike and Barb.”
We had a lovely stay in your beautiful rustic lake front bach. It was everything we hoped for and more. The perfect location for our reunion catch up. We really loved the bach and it's original 60's time capsule feeling. Great fireplace kept us warm. And private garden and lake frontage was delightful. Thanks so much. Will be back again
- Keith, May 2020Rob “A characterful, authentic kiwi bach in a stunning bush setting, right on the lakefront.”
- Rob, January 2020Nicholas “Great bach in a fantastic location by the lake.”
The kids and us loved swimming in the lake every day. Kuratau was a bit like Auckland by the lake but people very friendly. Would recommend Floating Rock vineyard, the pizzas, service and wine were excellent. The walk along the river is beautiful. The only downside is Kuratau doesn’t allow dogs on the beach reserve between 9am and 7pm in the summer. So even though we had a bach right on the lake, our beloved family pooch couldn’t join us in the water. The dog exercise area is great however.
- Nicholas, January 2020Jessica “We have been regularly renting this bach for the last 4 years.”
We have absolutely loved staying here. The location is superb and the cottage is cute, back to basics and a real kiwi bach experience. It has been great being able to holiday with our dogs too. Some maintenance is required and it would be nice to see some newer, more comfortable furniture and bedding. Great to see new outdoor furniture and to have use of a bbq this year too.
- Jessica, January 2020We are delighted to have you and your pooches as regulars, Jessica. The owner has replaced all the beds so we look forward to welcoming you back soon to enjoy your stay even more! Bachcare
