Kirsty “Bachcare let us down.”
This property shouldn’t be a holiday rental in its current state. Our child became trapped in the toilet which had a pencil, electrical tape and drill bit as an internal lock - what the heck - eventually the door had to be broken to free him. Not to mention the collapsing lounge floor, mould stench, dodgy toilet plumbing and lack of fire safety. At the very least this listing should have recent accurate photos and a description warning guests of the actual condition of the property.

Helen “So disappointed, our impression on arrival went from “quirky, bird surrounded lakeside, Bach”, to “shabby, neglected, past it’s best by date tree house”.”
There were no instructions, the main tv remote needed new batteries, no remote at all for the tv in the main bedroom. There was wifi in the house but despite the daily rate, it was not available to renter. We felt like that at one stage the house would have been so appealing to us, but the lack of upkeep, furniture that was falling apart and what to us looked like a lack of financial re-investment in the property left a sour taste in our mouths.
- Helen, January 2024We are so very sorry that your stay was not as we would have hoped for you and will address the issues you have raised with our local team. Bachcare
Antonia “Beautiful location, surrounded in bush and generally a nice house, but our stay was not great.”
Their were plumbing problems - we had a day without a toilet, we had huge puddles of water in the laundry and we were awake for two nights with gurgling and 'screaming' coming from the hot water system next to the master bedroom. There was also water coming in the bottom of the door in the second bedroom when it rained - probably the reason the room reeks of damp/mould. There was food caked on all the frypans and the BBQ when we arrived too - not a great welcome.
- Antonia, December 2023Thank youf or taking the time to provide this feedback Antonia. We are so very sorry that there were a few plumbing and cleaning issues here that have been addressed with the local team. We do hope you return to this fabulous location and we can make your stay more welcoming next time. Bachcare
Amber “We really enjoyed our stay, what a beautiful property in such a serene peaceful location.”
The gas heater kept us toasty and warm and the kids really enjoyed the down stairs bedrooms.
- Amber, August 2023Peter “Hi Peter, Thank you for your feedback.”

- Peter, February 2023Penny “Wow ! Amazing spot”
- Penny, January 2023Michele “The house had a very damp smell when we first accessed.”
Improved with some airing out but was still noticeable. Great quiet location, beds very comfy great facilities
- Michele, December 2022Jessica “Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your bach in a beautiful location.”
The house is quirky and interesting and the setting amongst the bush is wonderful. The ability to bring our doggo along was also most appreciated. We stayed during winter (July) and despite all the heaters, we found the house to be quite chilly. We had two couples and two kids which (we didn't realise) the layout of the house didn't really suit. We had arranged for linen and the double bed plus three single beds were made (inc the hole in the wall bed). I called to ask for the linen for the double bunk. Unfortunately this didn't arrive and so we had to squeeze one of adults into the hole in the wall bed! Cleanliness could be improved, especially considering these times during COVID. We found someones hair accessories in plain sight on the couch and there were cobwebs on the back of the door to the main bedroom. I suspect the fridge could also do with some maintenance as I don't think it was cold! We also had some trouble with the shower - it was either blistering hot or freezing cold.
- Jessica, July 2022Stefan “Excellent house, easy access and great views.”
Comfortable and well set out in a rain forest full of birds.
- Stefan, July 2021Darren “Great spot and wonderful view , Thank you for sharing your home with us we had an amazing time .”
- Darren, July 2021Karen “Fabulous house, we really enjoyed our stay.”
beautiful, peaceful setting amongst the trees, and the kids had a great time playing hide and seek among the many tracks around the property. It was a big bonus to be allowed to bring our dog along with us! The house is well appointed with everything we needed, and the kids loved taking a night each sleeping in "the hole in the wall" bed. We love a house with quirks, and this one is great.
- Karen, June 2021Rebecca “We had a great time at the bach, we loved going on the bush walks (especially to the nearby vineyard for pinot gris and pizza) and to the beach.”
Very quiet neighbourhood which was perfect for us. As it's in the bush there were a few spiders, so make sure to conquer any fears before getting there!
- Rebecca, February 2021Helene “Such a private home, we loved being up in the trees.”
It was quiet, warm and relaxing. The bird life was a pleasure to watch so close. Good location near the walking track and what a bonus to be able to bring our wee dog. Would definitely stay again!
- Helene, November 2020Olivia “We loved our stay here, it was very relaxing and homely.”
Pukawa Bay itself was so nice and quiet, we enjoyed all the walks and the close proximity to Kuratau where we went often for a game of tennis.
- Olivia, December 2019mareet “Fantastic holiday home amongst the bush overlooking Lake Taupo.”
Stunning sunrises, and the bird life was amazing. The kids loved the unique bunk beds. The house was nice and cozy, and we would love to return to utilise the great outdoor decks in the warmer months.
- mareet, September 2019Kathryn “A great house with beautiful views of the lake and Bush all around.”
We loved the games, the dishwasher and comfy beds too.
- Kathryn, June 2019Tim “We had the time of our lives at this house - most of our time was spent on the terrace surrounded by native bush and birds.”
The bird life is amazing - to wake up to the song of bellbirds and the wingbeats of Kereru was beautiful. We had everything we needed, and the walk to the lake was steep but rewarding. The bushwalk on the hill above the house was also amazing. An unforgettable experience.
- Tim, February 2019Debbie “Thank you for this gem in the trees.”
