Andrea “My Mum and her Sister stayed as it was Mums 80th.”
Was a lovely stay for them. Very cosy and comfortable and close to where the rest of the family was staying.

Glenys “We really enjoyed our stay here but we felt the floors could have been cleaner and there were cobwebs around.”
Perhaps some mention about accessibility would be good. Great layout of the bach and had everything that we needed.
- Glenys, August 2024Sian “Great spot for three generations of our family”
- Sian, March 2024Magdelene “We had a great time at this cute little bach.”
We especially enjoyed the hot tub, the kayaks, and the kids toys and games.
- Magdelene, February 2024Vanessa “Idyllic setting.”
Great location. We particularly liked the decking, spa and all the great books in the bookshelf. We did think some of the trees and bushes were a bit overgrown and in need of some trimming/maintenance
- Vanessa, January 2024Barbara “Terrific stay.”
As the accurate listing shows, the view, deck, spa, and water access are such a treat. And the kayaks and paddle board are a great addition. The inside is also lovely, and has virtually everything you’d want. I’ve never stayed at a vacation home that was this well kitted out. Stay here if you get the chance!
- Barbara, January 2024Jae “This was the perfect escape for us - a wonderful private setting nestled in the bush yet so close and accessible, along with the hot tub, kayaks, setting and peaceful time of year made this so relaxing.”
Will be back again for more.
- Jae, September 2023Zoe “We stayed here for three nights over my son's birthday and loved it.”
So quiet and cosy with everything we needed for a fun and comfortable stay. The location was ideal and the kayaks and paddle boards were very much enjoyed. WiFi, bath tub and spa pool were all added bonuses. We will definitely be back.
- Zoe, May 2023Joanna “We absolutely loved our stay here.”
The use of the kayaks, for the kids and adults, was fantastic and the hot tub was a wonderful (unexpected) luxury. We arrived late on the ferry and the property manager was kind enough to pop the heatpump and a light on so it was cosy and warm when we arrived. A brilliant little bach! Thank you!
- Joanna, April 2023Kris “Excellent location and facilities.”
Kids had a blast. Will be back for sure.
- Kris, February 2023Martin “This Bach really is something special.”
Enjoy!
- Martin, February 2022Pam “Lovely place to stay, had everything we needed, except nice weather”
- Pam, February 2022Kane “Excellent , would love to stay again”
- Kane, January 2022Philippa “This property is great!”
Clean, comfortable, well equipped, great BBq and outdoor dining/seating. The location is beautiful- private, quiet with stunning views out into the Sounds. Magical at dawn with seabirds, herons, and I spotted a seal one morning! We very much enjoyed the kayaks, and paddle board. Thanks for providing life jackets. There is a great selection of books and games for all ages. A good location for exploring the area, close to Anikiwa, and Havelock, and Pelorus Bridge for great river swimming. Others recommended bringing in drinking water for families, which is what we did. Also river shoes would be useful for swimming. Overall a wonderful holiday, thank you.
- Philippa, January 2022Hannah “We had an absolutely fabulous stay!”
It was so peaceful and restful and absolutely what we needed to relax, restore and enjoy some family time. The bach was clean, tidy, nicely presented and very well equipped. There were plenty of thoughtful touches to make the stay more comfortable. We particularly appreciated the Nespresso machine and the well-equipped kitchen. It was great to be able to access the bach from Queen Charlotte Drive and we did have some mobile phone reception. We really enjoyed the use of the paddle board and kayaks. We would love to come back and stay again.
- Hannah, December 2021Elizabeth “We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 boys aged 5 and 7 years.”
They loved the board games and were super excited about having 2 bunk beds (no arguments over who got the top!) The house is tastefully renovated and has an excellent heat pump. Very comfortable queen bed. The kids loved the kayaks and the garden goes straight down to the beach. Watch out for the mud at low tide - nearly lost our sandals into it! Had hoped to launch our boat at the community boat ramps. But none were suitable, Havelock marina is 10mins away and much safer. Shower pressure a bit low but plenty of hot water. We brought bottled water with us to avoid having to boil drinking water. No TV or internet was a great way to relax and enjoy each others company.
- Elizabeth, April 2021Victoria “Awesome gem of a Bach .”
Well stocked cupboards with all necessities. Beautiful deck and a fab bbq . Private beach and community boat ramp made launching our boat easy . No tv , wifi and limited reception made this the perfect getaway. Thank you !
- Victoria, January 2021Madeline “This is a lovely spot with great proximity to Havelock and Picton.”
Definitely bring drinking water if there are a few of you! Clean with comfy beds and a great view and private beach access. Thanks for the board games too :)
- Madeline, January 2021Renee “We had a wonderful stay at this bach, we are a family of 5 and everything we needed was provided.”
The spot was great and having the use of the kayaks was an added bonus. Great location in the Sounds but proximity to Havelock was ideal.
- Renee, January 2020Emma “Lovely place with a very sunny deck.”
Very clean. Would love to come back in summer.
- Emma, October 2019Stephanie “We really enjoyed this property.”
It is bijoux but suited our family of 5 perfectly. We loved the peaceful location, felt so isolated but still only 10 minutes from the services of Havelock. The paddle boards and kayaks were a huge hit. The house was lovely and warm and having a refreshed and well equipped kitchen and bathroom was a real bonus. The tap water is not drinkable without pre-boiling so we recommend stocking up on bottled water in Havelock on your way in.
- Stephanie, April 2019We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back soon! It is a very special location indeed! Bachcare
GDPR “Lovely bach, well appointed kitchen and bathroom, comfy beds, great deck and kayaks and paddle boards.”
Access to a private beach. Might be worth noting if it's important to you that there's no wifi and poor mobile coverage (we headed for the beach when this was required).
- GDPR, February 2019Hi Vicki, we are so glad you loved your stay and the beach is just amazing! We do note on the listing that there is no wifi or cell phone reception - there's a filter in our guest searches to show only properties with wifi if you're looking for this in future. Bachcare
Kerry “Beautiful location and lovely bach with plenty of room for a family of 4.”
Fantastic to have the water at the end of the garden and use of paddle boards and kayaks - really made the holiday! Everything in the bach was clean, modern and bach manager Anne was friendly and helpful.
- Kerry, February 2019Janna “A lovely spot; with direct beach access.”
Great for kids with toys/books. Well equipped kitchen. Close to start of Queen Charlotte Track. Highly recommend the Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve.
- Janna, February 2019Claire “Had a great time at this cosy Bach.”
- Claire, October 2018janet “This home had everything we needed.”
It was lovely watching the tide and enjoying the kayaks on the water. House was easy to find, private and was a relaxing stay. Close proximity to walkways and Havelock for food and petrol etc.

The property
Mahakipawa Waterfront Hideaway is a two bedroom Marlborough holiday home, where you can relax and unwind. Although this holiday house is easily accessible by road, as guests attest - the surrounding native bush gives a secluded and private feel. This home has a huge sunny deck that is perfect for eating, entertaining and relaxing whilst taking in the view of the tidal Mahakipawa Arm. When the tide is up kayaks and paddle boards can be launched from the end of the front garden, with shoreline access just a stone's throw away. At low tide, you can fossick along the craggy shoreline of the Arm or take a stroll along the Link Pathway, which crosses the properties driveway, or perhaps do a loop taking in both. After a day of activities there is nothing better than soaking in the cedar & stainless hot tub, set on a lower deck surrounded by bush and bird life. The holiday home includes many modern facilities so you can have an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The spacious bathroom has a shower over the bath, while the well-equipped kitchen includes a dish drawer and Nespresso coffee machine for your convenience and enjoyment. The water supply is treated with filters and UV in a modern, but natural, purification process that's completely eco-friendly and chemical-free. The open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area (with TV) opens out to the deck and the house is easily warmed or cooled as necessary via a modern heat pump. There are two bedrooms, the first has a queen bed, desk and TV, whilst the second has two sets of single bunks (4 beds). The living room couch can serve as a single bed, offering some flexibility, but please note that guest numbers are limited to a maximum of 6. The house has wifi, and the two TV's come equipped with Chromecast, loaded with free-to-air and streaming service apps, so you can watch your favourite shows after a busy day in the bay. To discover the beauty and excellent fishing of the Pelorus Sounds, you can utilise the commercial ramp at Havelock Marina, or alternatively beach launch your smaller boat from neighbouring Belvue bay. The holiday house has its own swing mooring in the arm, suited for a vessel up to 12 metres long and visible from the house deck. The mooring is also useful for anchoring the kayak(s) for a fish or a dip. There is a large flat grassy council layby at the top of the drive which is useful for temporarily parking a boat. Mahakipawa Waterfront Hideaway is perfect for water-sport lovers, with kayaks and paddleboards available for the whole family. The cafes, bars, restaurants, Four Square and small-town charm of historic Havelock is just a short 10 minutes drive away, while the increasingly popular Queen Charlotte Tavern is only 5mins in the other direction. The start of the Queen Charlotte Track at Anakiwa is only 14 minutes drive, while the famous Marlborough vineyards, or the beautiful Pelorus River (swimming & cafe at the bridge), are just 30 minutes away.
As the property has unfenced access to the shoreline and two creeks as well as external stairs, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe.
While Vodafone coverage can generally be found, other cell phone services are unlikely to be available on the property. Wifi at the property allows access to alternative calling/messaging applications.
Guests will need to use their personal login to access the paid streaming services on the TV's. Popular streaming apps, including free-to-view such as TVNZ and Three, have been downloaded, or there is the option to stream from your own device.
Water toys provided include:
2 children's kayaks (Weeniwaves - designed for kids ages 3+ or up to 40kg)
2 youth kayaks (Lifetime Wave - designed for kids ages 5 and up, or up to 60kg)
1 adult single kayak (Viking Ozzie - designed for 40-120kg children and adults)
1 double kayak (Viking 2+1 - designed to be paddled with one, two or two adults and a child)
1 paddleboard
While there are some basic (block) life jackets available for use, it is recommended that guests bring their own life-jackets to ensure fit and comfort.
